Overwhelming light rail start in Odense (2022)After eight years and some billions, you could probably just try a few trips. That's how it sounded when 10-year-old Anders, together with thousands of other Odense residents, attended the opening and free trips of the long-awaited Light rail in Odense.
We were there when the first 2 official light rail trains drove synchronously into Albani Torv, to celebrate the opening of the most controversial construction project in Odense in recent times.
A construction project that has of course had the obligatory delays, lots of construction mess, complaints about nuisances, and local political debate for and against. But even if no one can yet predict how popular the light rail will become, it is set to become a part of the city many years into a future where Odense, like the rest of Denmark and indeed the rest of the world, will have to think about climate-friendly green forms of transport, before global warming and the ongoing climate changes really knock on the door.
You can also watch a local historical look back at the controversy over a disputed highway that divided the city in more ways than one.By Odense ser Rødt - .
