The Kirnitzschtalbahn 2/2 - Trams in the Kirnitzschtal - historic (2013)The Kirnitzschtalbahn in May 2013, episode 2 of 2.
The Kirnitzschtalbahn is a meter-gauge interurban tram in Saxon Switzerland that was opened in 1898 and is now operated by the OVPS. The Kirnitzschtalbahn is 8 kilometers long and is not a heritage railway, but the smallest tram service in Saxony. On August 7, 2010, there was a severe flood in the Kirnitzschtal, so that operations were stopped because the track and vehicles were damaged. After the flood damage was repaired, the train has been running again to the Lichtenhainer Wasserfall terminus since December 14, 2012.
The oldest vehicle on the Kirnitzschtalbahn, railcar 9, comes from the Lockwitztalbahn and was built in 1926 by the W. C. F. Busch wagon factory in Bautzen. Railcar 8 is also one of the older vehicles. It was built in 1938 for the Erfurt tram and used on the Lockwitztalbahn (Niedersedlitz - Kreischa) from 1968. On December 18, 1977, the Lockwitztalbahn was closed and Tw 8 then came to the Kirnitzschtalbahn where it still runs today. In normal scheduled services, Gotha railcars of the type T57, which were built between 1957 and 1960, are now used on the Kirnitzschtalbahn.
This makes the Kirnitzschtalbahn (alongside the Woltersdorf tram in Brandenburg) the only tram company that uses exclusively Gotha railcars in normal scheduled services.
