Crich Tramway Museum (2012)Take a trip to Crich in Derbyshire and travel back in time to when the streets of Britain echoed with the sound of electric trams. I'll take you to my row, okay? No time. It speaks Chrome on it, my goodness. SSH, which one? Which one? No, I haven't. Want your penny? I think it's better to give you the day. It's a bit scary. Excuse me, wow, you can see things. Yeah, when we come back, we'll have a coffee in that little shop. Yeah, wow. The people, thank you for coming. Because 95% of our income comes from entrance fees at the gate, that pays for the restoration of the TR, uh, the Lut 159, which was featured on East Midlands about four weeks ago. That cost 350,000 and took seven years to restore. Some of the CHS we receive are in a state of disrepair, to put it mildly. There's a storyboard on the maintenance mezzanine floor where you can overlook the maintenance workshop about Chesterfield 7. It was a bungalow for 30 years; after it was taken out of service, they removed the top half, placed it next to the bottom half, covered it completely, and used it as a bungalow. So, you can imagine the state it was in when we acquired it. There are pictures of its restoration around the walls. You obviously get it. I'm sorry, this is the Blackpool standard tram built in 1926. A fleet of 42 trams was constructed at that time, and this was number 40, hence the designation "Blackpool 40". A lot of that fleet was modified because initially they didn't have windshields downstairs and the open balconies, which were open with no roof, so they were all fitted with windshields. If you've ever been to Blackpool, you can understand why the drivers wanted windshields. They all had canopies fitted over the balconies, and some were totally enclosed with glass at the top. This one wasn't. This one was the last open-top balcony car to remain in service, right up until 1962, with Blackpool Transport. It was only when the mountain line closed that they got rid of it, and they donated it, along with a few more trams, to us here at CR. It has been in constant use, apart from two refurbishments—one in the 1980s and the last one in 1998. Upstairs, the original 1926 seating features wooden seats. We added the fabric seats and the fabric back, so they got the posh seats downstairs. I think you're ready? Please, time to go. Put your bag away while you get ready. Thank you. And no, there's no accommodation, but we're getting some soon. We have a few minutes. I can't do these now; I was doing them today, but I'm currently unable to do them. Why? What's happened? Where are you?By Brockle Broadcasting Co - .
