Line 13 - Opening ceremony of the new route to Hemmingen (2023)On December 9, 2023, just before 11 a.m., the moment arrived: the light rail reached its new terminus in Hemmingen. Seven years of construction took place, and the initial plans date back 30 years; therefore, the arrival of the new Line 13 was met with great joy and applause. Congratulations, celebrations, and testing were held – take a look for yourself!
That was a massive undertaking for us- 30 years of planning and construction. Initially, we naturally faced interruptions due to the transport projects for Expo 2000. Then, the financial crisis occurred, and we had to plan and build the B3, depending on the location. The road needed to be relocated by a few meters, and a new bridge for the B 3 had to be constructed. Eventually, we were allowed to build this route, including the sewer, pipelines, and traffic facilities. That's why it took 30 years. Today is a big day for Östra—a 3.3 km route extension with six new stops.
We're excited to connect here, linking the surrounding municipality to the light rail network. It's a genuinely moving and critical moment for us. The light rail extension is a massive boost for mobility across the Hanover region. Thousands of people will benefit from being able to travel quickly from Hemming to the state capital, and vice versa. I believe it will also reduce car traffic and potentially decrease traffic jams. I'm just happy it's a great day, and we want more people to use public transport. You're helping make that happen today. A very warm welcome here in Hemmingen for the inauguration of railway line 13. My thanks to everyone involved. We are ultimately the beneficiaries of this project- we get to travel here and transport you. I see many happy faces; we're so glad because we also think new routes are great. It's fun to drive and a change.
Of course, providing vehicles daily is a challenge, but it's a fundamental task for us. We manage it and hope things continue to go just as smoothly in the future. Yes, there is a light rail line that runs to Hanover every 10 minutes. We also offer late-night transportation, allowing people to arrive in Hanover quickly. People from Hanover also come here, which is excellent. On one hand, we've strengthened the route network around Hemmingen, with a new cross-connection from Dören via Hemmingen to Wettbergen. All this will contribute to improved public transport here in Hemmingen, and hopefully, many will choose to make the switch.By Üstra Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe - .
