Today, we ride Stockholm's historic tram line 7N Djurgårdslinjen. Enjoy the trip! Hello! We are in front of the Dramaten, Sweden's most prestigious theater, waiting for a tram that isn't this one. By the way, the Dramaten was founded in 1788 and has been housed in this 'Art Nouveau' style building since 1908. This tram is similar to the one we expect, but in the opposite direction. Here, we see a bus from Line 7, similar to the tram line, which I believe offers a similar tour. And right on time, a modern tram from line 7 arrives. After a long wait, here it is! It doesn't happen often, so some patience is needed. OK, let's go! Starting from the Nybroplan stop, we first cross Strandvägen, known as the 'Coast Street,' a prominent boulevard in the city center. Beautiful views, aren't they? Along its route, this line, run by volunteers, makes several stops until it reaches Djurgården, a lovely island with various attractions, including the famous Vasa Museum. The tram platform also functions as a bus lane.
How the tram moves! I love it! Now we cross the Djurgårdsbron bridge; we'll talk about him later. Being able to sit behind the driver is truly a privilege. I enjoy watching how he operates the tram. I have a vision almost identical to his. This unique line runs on the same tracks as regular Stockholm trams. And it's wonderful to see modern convoys full of people—past and future together. The parks are lush, and it's already summer when I recorded this video. I get the sense that Stockholm has many green areas. It’s amazing. The interior is detailed, and it perfectly reflects its history. Almost no detail is missing. I need to see what this little plate says… At the stops, some people are surprised—they don't recognize this tram. If you're lucky enough to ride in less crowded carriages, it's a great experience. Traveling with him, you enjoy both the journey and the views. On Djurgården island, you can find many beautiful houses from earlier times, as well as the Vasa Museum, Rosendal Palace, the ABBA Museum, Gröna Lund amusement park—the oldest in Sweden—and Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum, which showcases traditional Swedish architecture and also has a zoo. I don't speak Swedish, but the translator says the sign reads: "The driver does not change amounts greater than 5 kroner." Currently, a single ticket costs 39 crowns, and if you buy it on board tram line 7—where possible—it costs 54 crowns.

This beautiful structure was built for the World's Fair in 1897 and connects the mainland of the Östermalm neighborhood with the island of Djurgården. The tour concludes by retracing this canal and the Strandvägen boulevard. And look at the grand buildings on the right. I have loved this trip in the past in a city as beautiful as Stockholm. Oh! Here, the City tram runs between Djurgården and the City, called Waldemarsudde and T-Centralen, respectively. It was first built as a museum tram, inaugurated on June 2, 1991. It initially operated a shorter route between Norrmalmstorg and Djurgården. Interestingly, a museum tram now operates here, although it doesn't run on weekdays. This year, the museum operates on Saturdays and Sundays, with enhanced service during the summer and on special occasions. The Swedish Tram Association runs the museum as a volunteer service. This service, called Djurgårdslinjen with route number 7N, was extended toward the City with a short addition, starting regular service on August 21, 2010. The line is named Spårväg City and has route number 7. Now, modern trams of the same type as those on Tvärbanan are in operation. The investment was necessary for expansion towards future residential areas, but funding has been lacking, and other track extensions have been prioritized.
Passenger interchange occurred at the Nybroplan stop in both directions. The tram is widely used for traveling to various attractions on Djurgården, including Skansen, Vasamuseet, ABBA The Museum, Gröna Lund's Tivoli, and more. The trams are manufactured by the Spanish company CAF. They are a variant of the Urbos AXL model, known as A35B in Stockholm. It is a two-way articulated tram, measuring 30.8 meters in length and 2.65 meters in width, with an interior view of the tram type featuring recessed elements. Initially, the trams were Bombardier Flexity Swift, as shown in the inset image. The regular trams go straight here; the museum trams turn around the block to the right. Built by Bombardier, this is probably how many people remember the tram enthusiast Carl Henrik Lidner. The 13-year-old who had already ridden the tram in over 50 cities and knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. Now that day has arrived. How does the first day feel so far? It's absolutely incredible—it's a childhood dream come true. I've been riding here for three or four years, standing right next to the driver and watching how it operates. Now, you're sitting here yourself, steering the tram. So, there's a lot of nostalgia. When you saw the tram as a kid, you thought it was something different. Back then, modern trams, buses, and subways didn't attract me as much because they felt so normal, unlike the original tram. I still think they are. I also love the Nordic Museum, Vasa Museum, and Junibacken. How much practice have you had saying those correctly? I haven't practiced much. It's like a child's bone, I think—almost. I used to imitate it when I was little, like taking a coffee grinder at home and cranking it on the kitchen table, and then the announcement would be made automatically. Henrik drives vintage trams on the Djurgårdslinjen and believes they will remain for a long time, as long as someone is driving them. But driving vintage trams isn’t a regular job; the drivers do it voluntarily in their free time, so it’s the real thing when Liljevalls konsthall Gröna Lund switches to trips toward Valdemars.By Expressen - .

Yes, now I am at the newly built stop located on Sergels torg, and with me today is one of the biggest tram enthusiasts in Stockholm, Karl Henrik. Now we will follow him on the tram; he will tell you a little about his interest in trams and how he became involved with them. Yes, follow along. These trams are rented from Norrköping and Frankfurt; Bombardier builds them. They are 32 meters long and can carry over 200 passengers. The trams can drive at most 80 km/h, but you usually drive about 30 km/h here. On Strandvägen, they can maybe go up to 40 or 50 km/h at most. The first tram line in Stockholm was a horse tram called the Djurgårdslinjen.
When they decided to build a museum tram in 1991, they retained the name, so it is now known as the Djurgårdslinjen. I’ve heard you’ve ridden trams in almost 50 countries—that’s right? Fifty cities? Yes, that's right. Good. I usually film and photograph these cities, so I have quite an extensive archive of images and videos from all of them. People often ask which country has the nicest trams. It’s hard to say. In Germany, they’ve rarely closed their tram systems, so they've stayed relatively consistent. In France, they closed their tram lines except in a city called Sonen, but now they’ve built new trams there, so they have modern trams like this elsewhere, too. It’s a tricky question. Here's what the driver's cab looks like. The driver uses just a lever—pull it forward to increase speed and pull back to brake. There are numerous buttons for opening doors and activating turn signals. You also have to change gears; you can press a button to shift gears when needed. Yes, you can change gears while driving. Oh, can you see yourself sitting and driving a tram for a couple of years? Yes, I’d do it in my free time, but maybe not with new trams like these. Though, of course, these will get old, so I’d probably drive ones like these then. But, yes. All that’s left now is to thank Karl Henrik for an incredibly educational half hour.
