Bremen's new BSAG tram »Nordlicht« runs under its own power for the first time (2020)A few days ago, the "Nordlicht" reached its new home. Now it was time for its first ride under its own power on the premises of Bremer Straßenbahn AG.By Bremer Straßenbahn (BSAG) - .

New Bremen tram generation: BSAG presents the "Nordlicht" (2020)Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG) has presented the "Nordlicht" to the press. This is what BSAG calls its new generation of trams, technically known as "GT8N-2". The new tram offers more space than the old "GT8N" from the 1990s, which it will replace by 2023, more doors, greater ride comfort, more parking options for strollers, walkers, etc., better visibility for drivers and much more. So far, BSAG has received two "Nordlichter" and by the end of 2020, 15 of a total of 77 vehicles ordered are expected to be built by Siemens in Vienna. During a test drive through the depot, it was no longer just BSAG employees who had the opportunity to see the new tram in action.By WESER-KURIER - .

First new BSAG tram arrives in Bremen (2020)

First new BSAG tram arrives in Bremen (2020)Early Tuesday morning, the first of the new Bremen trams arrived at Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG) 's premises. According to BSAG, the new trams are supposed to be quieter, more comfortable, and more spacious than their predecessors. The new tram type from Siemens in Vienna is supposed to replace the old "GT8N" railcars from the 1990s, which are now showing their age, by 2023. Yes, the passengers have more space. Firstly, that's not just a feeling. The tram is 35 centimeters wider than the one it's replacing. The old model was 230 cm wide, while the new tram is up to 265 cm wide. Naturally, there is much more room for passengers. In terms of ride comfort, it's quieter and fully air-conditioned, unlike the previous models. That's a clear improvement—a noticeable comfort feature. Regarding the seats, I would say you probably won't notice much difference. A new feature on this tram is the incorporation of wooden seating in some areas. We're very eager to see how passengers will respond. We found it enjoyable during testing and trials. We look forward to seeing how passengers react. We want to get the tram into service immediately, but Company 7 has to adjust the vehicle properly first. After that, we'll gradually become more involved. We hope the initial brake tests went well. Everything was correctly prepared, as we say, to have a good start. Once the doors and passenger information systems are installed, we expect to start driving in about two weeks, after conducting approximately 70 brake tests to observe the trams' performance. The new trams and tram extensions—lines 8, 1, and the east cross link—will make the bus station much more attractive. The trams are barrier-free, which is especially important for people with limited mobility.By WESER-KURIER - .
The future of BSAG: This is what is planned for Bremen's local transport (2020)

The future of BSAG: This is what is planned for Bremen's local transport (2020)Bremen has lagged behind when it comes to public transportation. Consider what was planned! A regional light rail system based on the Karlsruhe model, but that was abandoned. In Bremen, it took almost ten years to connect directly between Gröpelingen, the Waterfront, and the main station, even though the lines were already in place. Baden-Württemberg would have had the connection before the shopping center opened.By buten un binnen - .
