Pöstlingbergbahn: Steep gradient tramway in Austria (2012)The Pöstlingbergbahn is a tramway in Linz, Austria - the steepest adhesion railway in the world. In 2009, the track gauge was changed from 1000 mm to 900 mm, allowing the line to be extended to the main square. At Mühlkreisbahnhof station, there is also an admission-free Pöstlingbergbahn museum.
The funicular in Linz, Upper Austria, was the steepest cable car in the world in 2009. The gorge was widened from 1,000 mm to 900 mm so that this tram line could be integrated into the regular Linz tram network. This change also made it possible to extend the tram to the city center, with trains running once an hour during the summer. The line features historic trains, and the entire route is 4.1 km long, with trains running every 15 minutes during peak times. The view from the top is spectacular, offering a magnificent vista over Linz and the entire Danube Valley. The station features a small museum, and admission is free.By NThusiast - .
