Line 13 - Opening ceremony of the new route to Hemmingen (2023)
4:07
Line 13 - Opening ceremony of the new route to Hemmingen (2023)On December 9, 2023, just before 11 a.m., the moment arrived: the light rail reached its new terminus in Hemmingen. Seven years of construction took place, and the initial plans date back 30 years; therefore, the arrival of the new Line 13 was met with great joy and applause. Congratulations, celebrations, and testing were held – take a look for yourself! That was a massive undertaking for us- 30 years of planning and construction. Initially, we naturally faced interruptions due to the transport projects for Expo 2000. Then, the financial crisis occurred, and we had to plan and build the B3, depending on the location. The road needed to be relocated by a few meters, and a new bridge for the B 3 had to be constructed. Eventually, we were allowed to build this route, including the sewer, pipelines, and traffic facilities. That's why it took 30 years. Today is a big day for Östra—a 3.3 km route extension with six new stops. We're excited to connect here, linking the surrounding municipality to the light rail network. It's a genuinely moving and critical moment for us. The light rail extension is a massive boost for mobility across the Hanover region. Thousands of people will benefit from being able to travel quickly from Hemming to the state capital, and vice versa. I believe it will also reduce car traffic and potentially decrease traffic jams. I'm just happy it's a great day, and we want more people to use public transport. You're helping make that happen today. A very warm welcome here in Hemmingen for the inauguration of railway line 13. My thanks to everyone involved. We are ultimately the beneficiaries of this project- we get to travel here and transport you. I see many happy faces; we're so glad because we also think new routes are great. It's fun to drive and a change. Of course, providing vehicles daily is a challenge, but it's a fundamental task for us. We manage it and hope things continue to go just as smoothly in the future. Yes, there is a light rail line that runs to Hanover every 10 minutes. We also offer late-night transportation, allowing people to arrive in Hanover quickly. People from Hanover also come here, which is excellent. On one hand, we've strengthened the route network around Hemmingen, with a new cross-connection from Dören via Hemmingen to Wettbergen. All this will contribute to improved public transport here in Hemmingen, and hopefully, many will choose to make the switch.By Üstra Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe - .

ÜSTRA Line 5 - Couplings at the Stöcken terminus (2019)
6:09
ÜSTRA Line 5 - Couplings at the Stöcken terminus (2019)At the Stöcken terminus of line 5, the third cars of the long trains are uncoupled in the morning after rush hour and then transferred to the Leinhausen depot as service cars. Since the 2019 timetable year, three-car trains have been used during the morning rush hour on Line 5. Starting around 8 o'clock, the third cars of the long trains at the Stöcken terminus are uncoupled again. For this, the last car of the three-car train on the arrival platform is disconnected by a shunter. The Stöcken terminus is designed as a turning loop and has two separate platforms for arriving and departing light rail vehicles. After the shunter uncouples the car, it signals completion with a bell. Line 5 can then operate as a two-car train to the exit. Parallel to the arrival platform, there is a siding that transfer platforms have recently extended. Between the arrival and departure platforms, there is bus access to the spacious transfer station. Passing through the relatively narrow loop between the platforms, the coupling apron must swing in a narrow arc over a considerable distance. The two-car train then moves up to the departure platform and waits there for departure. The shunter then moves the uncoupled sidecar from the arrival platform into the passing track. The shunter is a regular light rail driver who performs this task, uncoupling the third car of the long trains. For the operation of three-car trains, the departure platform at Stöcken was extended by a few meters, and the switch to the passing track was relocated. To maintain the space for both tracks, a broad curve was installed at the beginning of the passing track. A transfer platform for the TW3000 was also recently built on the passing track. Ten minutes later, the next three-car train arrives, running with fewer cars. Overall, six out of ten scheduled trips during rush hour are operated as three-car trains. Two trains are coupled with the third car at the Stöcken terminus, while the other four already run as three-car trains. The transfer system in Stöcken was installed in 1985, featuring elevated platforms for the light rail. Each three uncoupled sidecars is coupled together in the passing track to a new train and then transferred from a shunter as a non-passenger train to the depot. Now the shunter joins the third sidecar. With a push of a button at a standstill, the maximum speed for coupling is limited to 2 km / h. Now, the three-car train from the uncoupled sidecar is a non-passenger train en route to the depot in Leinhausen. If enough TW 3000 have been delivered in the near future, line 5 should run all day with three cars and thus relieve line 4. Thank you for watching :)By IC-lokomotivfører - .
ÜSTRA Light Rail Shuttle Service Wallensteinstrasse - Tresckowstrasse (2018)
7:59
ÜSTRA Light Rail Shuttle Service Wallensteinstrasse - Tresckowstrasse (2018)From July 27 to July 29, 2018, the A-South section of lines 3 and 7 will be closed due to construction work. A replacement bus service will be provided during this time. A commuter tram service has been set up between Wallensteinstrasse and Tresckowstrasse. Due to track construction and switch work along Ricklinger Stadtweg, as well as at the Allerweg track curve, the A-Süd line between Waterloo and Wallensteinstraße was closed for the weekend. Passengers on lines 3, 7, and 17 must use rail replacement services. At the "Wallensteinstraße" stop, passengers transfer between the bus and the aerial tram. Between Wallensteinstraße and Tresckowstraße, two three-car trains of the TW 3000 type will run back and forth, each on a single track. This means that service is offered approximately every ten minutes on this section of the route. Two additional TW 3000 cars are parked as reserves in the reversing lane. Because pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists do not expect trams traveling in the opposite direction, speed limits have been set up in front of the crossings. The "Dormannstraße" crossing, in particular, is hard to see because of the train parked in the reversing lane. The crossing lights have been covered since they can't be activated by trains on the left track. Instead, signal panels are installed, and trains ring their bells to signal their approach. The crossing signals and signal lights have also been covered at other crossings along the light rail line, and speed limits are posted. Signal panels are located at the crossings. It's rare to see two light rail trains traveling on the left track at the same time. Since the commuter trains each run on a single track, they always travel on the left track in one direction, opposite the usual direction of travel. Passengers are informed about the shuttle service at stops via displays. Additionally, service staff are available to provide information. Signs indicate which platform the next departure will be from. The unsignalized second stop entrance has been blocked off with barriers to simplify passenger information and enhance safety. The commuter tram service was introduced because there weren't enough buses available to provide SEV service on the entire route between Waterloo and Wettbergen for two tram lines. Two drivers staff each of the two commuter trams to ensure quick reversals at their terminals. Additionally, there is a "standby" driver at Wallensteinstraße who can relieve the commuter drivers for a break. The commuter trains terminate at "Tresckowstraße," one stop before the Wettbergen terminal, and then return from there. The trains cannot travel to the terminal because work is being done on the switches there. The drives and controls of the frequently used switches are being replaced. Replacement service to the terminal is only available at night; during the day, it can only be reached on foot. During the commuter service, train protection in the tunnel section is turned off, the maximum speed is limited to 30 mph, and the track magnets are covered. The trains navigate the tunnel by sight; the tunnel lighting has been turned on for this purpose. When trams run on the left track, hazard lights must be turned on; this requirement has been extended to both directions for the entire duration of the commuter service. The short tunnel passes beneath the Mühlenberg district and has a station below Mühlenberger Markt (Mühlenberg Market). Staff are also present at the tunnel station to assist passengers. The trains return to the surface via the "Am Sauerwinkel" tunnel ramp. The 30 mph speed limit applies to the whole route, not just the tunnel section. Here, too, the signals and magnets have been covered. This type of commuter service is probably a first for the tram and unlikely to happen again soon. The final scene, set in front of St. Thomas Church, concludes the documentary about the commuter service.By IC-lokomotivfører - - .

ÜSTRA Line 1 - Couplings in Rethen/Nord (2018)
7:29
ÜSTRA Line 1 - Couplings in Rethen/Nord (2018)At the "Rethen/Nord" stop, trailers are coupled and uncoupled throughout the week. At the "Rethen/Nord" stop, the third car of Line 1 is uncoupled during the day, and an announcement is made to inform passengers. A shunter is already waiting for Line 1 and will uncouple the trailer. The trailers are uncoupled here because the platforms leading out to Sarstedt are not long enough for three-car trains, and the necessary passenger demand is lacking. Therefore, Line 1 only runs here every 20 minutes. The shunter signals with a bell that the trailer has been uncoupled. This allows the two-car train to continue its journey. Shortly afterward, the trailer also departs toward the turning loop, where it is parked before being recoupled to the next train heading toward the city center. But first, the single car stops again to wait for the second shunter, who couples a car almost simultaneously. After the second shunter has boarded, the single vehicle can depart toward the loop. To the right is a small, heated rest area for the shunting crew. The trailers are temporarily parked in the "Rethen" turnaround loop, which is the endpoint of Line 2. A trolleybus, capable of operating as a two-way vehicle on both road and rail, is parked next to the track. The "Rethen" turnaround loop is located east of the B443 federal highway and is approximately 150 meters from the "Rethen/Nord" stop. Line 2 serves it every 20 minutes. The tracks in the foreground lead via Gleidingen and Heisede to Sarstedt and are served by Line 1. "Rethen" also functions as a bus turnaround facility. Sometimes, several buses wait for the arrival of Line 2, allowing passengers to transfer directly from the train to the bus. Bus lines 340 and 341, which operate on various routes between Pattensen and Messe/Ost, stop here. Line 346, serving Rethen and Laatzen, also stops here. Plans include closing the "Rethen" turnaround loop and the "Rethen/Nord" stop, as well as constructing an elevated platform on the main road. A park-and-ride lot is to be built where the loop currently is. Line 2 will be extended via "Rethen/Bahnhof" to the "Rethen/Galgenbergweg" stop, improving the connection of the new development to the light rail system. Shortly after the light rail arrives, the buses will depart again toward Messe/Ost and Pattensen. The trailers of Line 1 will be parked on the passing track of the loop. Meanwhile, Line 2 will return to Alte Heide. Line 2 will mainly use green TW 6000 buses, in the evenings and on Sundays, even as single vehicles. From Sarstedt, Line 1 passes the loop to Langenhagen. Immediately after, the trailer leaves the loop and follows the two-car train to the "Rethen/Nord" stop. On the way, the opposite track passes where the trailer was just uncoupled from the train. Then, the junction of lines 1 and 2 occurs: on the left, line 2 heads via Grasdorf, and on the right, line 1 via Laatzen to Hanover. On the left, the single uncoupled car waits for the second shunter, who carefully couples the trailer to the two-car train of line 1. Now, line 1, as a three-car train, travels via Laatzen and Hanover to Langenhagen. Immediately after, the road-rail truck, which was previously working on the overhead line in the loop, proceeds. On the opposite track, a three-car train is separated again, and the uncoupling and coupling cycle restarts. With the opening of the rebuilt "Laatzen" loop, coupling at Rethen/Nord will be discontinued and will now take place two stops earlier, in Laatzen.By IC-lokomotivfører - .
[ÜSTRA] Line 10 - Attach trailer, stop Glocksee (2017)
4:18
[ÜSTRA] Line 10 - Attach trailer, stop Glocksee (2017)On Sunday mornings, at the "Glocksee" stop on line 10, single cars are combined into two-car trains. The trailers are coupled at the rear. ÜSTRA proudly calls itself the world champion in coupling. No other company couples and uncouples as often as Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe. ÜSTRA constantly adjusts its vehicle capacity by adding or removing vehicles during peak and off-peak times. Coupling also happens on line 10. Early on a Sunday morning, passenger numbers are still so low that single-car trains, running every 15 minutes, are sufficient. But starting around 7 or 8 a.m., demand picks up again, and ÜSTRA responds by coupling a second car. This takes place at the "Glocksee" stop, just a few meters from the depot of the same name. A workshop employee moves the trailers from the depot to Theodor-Krüger-Straße, where the second trailer waits until the single railcar on line 10 arrives at the stop. Then the trailer moves into the station and couples with the railcar. This video isn’t just meant to show the operation, as September 17, 2017, was also the last day this maneuver was performed with the green TW 6000s. One day later, the line to the new terminus, "Hauptbahnhof/ZOB," opened. Its elevated platform, only 45 meters long, is too short for a double-unit TW 6000. Since September 18, 2017, only the Silver Arrows TW 2000 have been running on line 10. On Sunday mornings, single cars run on line 10, reinforced by a second car starting around 7 a.m. At that time, the Glocksee depot is quiet, with only the workshop already busy moving the TW 6000 into the depot hall. The Glocksee depot, located directly on the Ihme River, is the oldest light rail depot operated by ÜSTRA. The "blue lines"—lines 3, 7, and 9, as well as lines 10 and 17—operate from here. But let's return to the main topic. One of the trailer cars leaves the yard to be coupled to line 10, also handled by the workshop. The trailer car waits for line 10 on Theodor-Krüger-Straße. Theodor Krüger was the first director of the Hannover Tramway Company. Amid the sights of the "three warm brothers," the chimneys of the Linden combined heat and power plant, and the "Ihme-Zentrum" high-rise building, this single car on line 10 reaches the "Glocksee" stop. The Glocksee light rail depot connects to the rail network via the triangular track at the "Glocksee intersection." From the depot, the second car approaches and couples with the first at the stop. The 100/200 ring line also stops here and can now cross the intersection. A MAN Lion's City Hybrid was seen. A quarter of an hour later, the next trailer car waits to couple with the single car on line 10. Meanwhile, the first coupled two-car train is already returning from the city and heading toward Ahlem. Just before 8 a.m., the last single car arrives at the "Glocksee" stop and squeaks through the intersection. This marks the end of an era in light rail history, as it is the last TW 6000 train to be coupled with a trailer. With the opening of the "Hauptbahnhof/ZOB" station, only TW 2000 trains can run on Line 10. After a quick stop, the trailer carefully couples onto the railcar. Thanks to the Scharfenberg coupling, this only takes a few seconds. A whistle signals that the coupling is complete and the trailer is attached. From then on, Line 10 runs with two cars for the rest of the day.By IC-lokomotivfører - .

Hannover Tram - Impressions (2013)No matter which light rail video I watch, I keep noticing that many stops are still not barrier-free. This poses a particular challenge for people with walking difficulties. I understand that making stations barrier-free can be costly, but still, what if a person with a disability needs to board or get off at a stop where boarding and alighting are only possible via the light rail's folding steps? Or do the light rail vehicles have ramps that can be used if needed?By 777whitestone - .

[1/2] Trams in Hanover - a case study - ideal transport? (2012)Visit my blog http://filmykolejowe.pl/. Today, I'm taking you to Hannover, a city with a population of over 500,000. It has 12 tram lines and nearly 40 bus lines. It's also a city of bicycles. Yet, it boasts a level of public transportation that a town of similar size, Gdańsk, can only dream of. And it's not about the money but about the transfer options. Hanover is not a large city, and contrary to what it says, it doesn't have a metro, but it does have a very efficient public transportation system based on fast trams. Here, we see the entrance to the underground tram station. Let's take a tram to the transfer hub located two stations above ground. To travel, we need to buy a ticket, so let's go to the ticket machine. This machine features a unique ticket-purchasing system. We can choose the language. Polish isn't available; surprisingly, Turkish is. Yes, we have many languages here. There's Russian, Turkish, and more. It's obvious why, but since we're poets, we'll manage. A single-zone ticket costs 230 EUR and is not very profitable, as we mentioned, because an all-day (24-hour) ticket costs only 4.50 EUR. This time, shopping went much better. She returned our ticket and change. The ticket reads: 'Now we're heading to the viewing platform.' This tram, like the metro, is relatively shallow. The first interesting thing is that someone will appear at the bottom; those are stairs. Switch to the upward mode. Someone's coming. We'll see if it works as it should, in theory, for now. The stairs come from above. Now, the stairs have switched direction, meaning the escalators are now downward. A clever trick at less busy stops is to check the stairs themselves. As you can see, compared to the Warsaw metro, these platforms are pretty small and not very spacious either. The metro and tram were built around 1975. From what I remember, according to the info board built into the central tram station, we'll see it later. Now, let's go above ground. The info boards about the next train are obvious—two units, the destination station. Usually, before the train arrives, info about the following three trains and departure times appears. We're at the last station of the underground metro, so we're just heading to the surface. Welcome to the surface. Let's look at this tram route. The first thing that catches your eye is the very high platforms, which means most stations have level floors. Our tram is here; as you can see, the platform is enormous, but there are ramps, so no problem. The tracks continue toward the districts. These aren't suburbs, but areas where running tracks off the road aren't possible. I'll show you something that highlights its simplicity. Let's go to the other bus stop. Buses traveling from that side run along this street, bypassing this tram island, and approach the stop on a slight slope. You can see that some drivers are also having trouble. Thanks to this design, we get excellent transfers because bus passengers can board directly onto the tram platform. The next tram here is also an older model. As you can see, the doors are very high, and there are other differences. Below are the steps that open when the tram shares platforms with buses. I'm trying to show you such a platform and how these steps operate, but on high platforms, the floor is even. How long did the tram stand? Getting off? Getting on is easier. No one was threatening. Trams only stop briefly at designated stops. You'll see in some videos the speeds in the tunnel; around 60 km/h, similar to the maximum speed of the Warsaw metro until recently. Here, we have dedicated solutions, such as trams running at these speeds. Here's the timetable for this bus line. As you can see, it runs every 10 minutes. It's a pretty good service, along with the peak line 133. This provides a perfect frequency. Buses probably run every 8-9 minutes. Here's a map of the entire bus and tram network. The white area in the middle is the first zone. We're practically on its border, right there, and we'll go to the other end near the stadium. We'll see from the window what it looks like where the underground exits. The trams run fast, and thanks to the innovative solution at the central station, there are information boards at all tram stops showing the next departures. Unlike Warsaw, this system works much better. It just works. In one minute, there’s a tram; soon, we'll see the TR line 379 operating here. Looking at the map again, or better yet, the tram line map, you’ll see that line 369 is 3. They start at different points but intersect and support each other throughout the section. So, we're practically on the border of the zone now, and on the other side too. These three lines complement each other along this entire stretch, then branch again into two different loops at the other end.By KolejTakPkpNie - .

Hannover Stadtbahn (2012)The Hanover city railway has a network of over 100 km and currently operates 12 lines. The longest is line 1 from Langenhagen to Sarstedt. The Hanover Overland Works and Tramway Company (ÜSTRA) operates the city railway. The fundamental frequency is 10 minutes (except for line 17 and the outer branches of lines 1 and 2). The vehicle fleet includes the TW6000 from DÜWAG and LHB and the TW2000 from LHB. The TW3000 will follow shortly, which will not have folding steps for the first time. The TW6000 has been gradually phased out since EXPO 2000. TW6000s that have been handed over are used in Budapest, for example. However, since the last examples were only delivered in 1991, it will be several years before they are finally phased out.By Strassenbahnfreak - .

Hanover vintage trams (1970-1975)
1:52
Hanover vintage trams (1970-1975)Numerous construction projects are underway in the state capital, which also impact the “üstra” trams. A subway was planned but was quickly abandoned due to financial issues. Instead, a light rail system with tunnel sections in the city center was developed, which has been operating since 1975. It took ten years to complete the first tunnel section, Light Rail Line A, with four subway stations. At that time, alongside the new light rail cars, there were steel cars, superstructure cars, conversion cars, and GT6 vehicles—trams of many types that ran daily. We look back on a time of vehicle diversity, not only in trams but also in cars. On a journey through time to Hanover in the 1970s, you could still ride a variety of trams, from steel trams and construction trailers to the latest light rail vehicles. In this 50-minute documentary, you'll learn about the history of Hanover’s tram system and the fascinating story of the underground construction that turned the entire city center into a massive construction zone. This documentary allows us to relive the changes brought about by the light rail’s development. Whether it was fashion, cars, or trams, everything evolved over the years. Some footage in this film dates back to the 1960s. From the 1960s onward, the film has been available at bookstores or directly from tram TV.By tram-TV - - .
