Tampere Tram - Tram journey on the first and second part of the tramway (2025)

Tampere Tram - Tram journey on the first and second part of the tramway (2025)Tampere decided to build the tram in November 2016. More than eight years later, on January 7, 2025, tram section 2B from Santalahti to Lentävänniemi began operations. The Tampere Tramway is currently 24 km long. The new tram section is the final section of a project that has lasted almost ten years, and with its completion, the Tramway Alliance as a project will end. The team spirit of the project has been excellent and it is reflected in the successful outcome. With the tram, Tampere's cityscape and regional public transport system have undergone a significant change. Tram operations began in Tampere in August 2021. The popularity and passenger numbers of the tram have already exceeded the predicted targets, and the tram system has proven to be reliable. The tram route will next expand across the Tampere municipal borders to Pirkkala. The Tampere Tram Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance started construction work on the section in December. Watch the video to see what the Tram's journey has been like so far.By Tampereen Ratikka - .

More than just a trip - Customer Story 2 (2024)Tampere Tram – More than just a ride 🚋❤️ The Tampere Tram is our collective pride, linking the city's neighborhoods and smoothly transporting you to your loved ones and activities: home, work, studies, shopping, and fun. Your comfortable trip means listening to your needs and constantly improving our service. It stands for dependability, safety, and easy travel. It also promises top-notch service and the artistic experiences of Tram City. Well, I actually only moved to Tampere after the tram system was already in place, so it's a bit hard for me to compare it to that. Still, now that I have a job in Hervanta and live in the city center, everyday life is much easier because I can get around really easily. Could 'smooth' be a good way to describe it—that it's not often late, there's plenty of space, and you can get around easily? I like it; this route works really well for me since the campuses are close, allowing me to study efficiently. This is a black, smooth Tampere tram, more than just a trip.By Tampereen Ratikka - .

More than travel - Customer story 1 (2024)Tampere Tram – More than just a ride 🚋❤️ Tampere Tram is our shared pride, connecting city districts and smoothly transporting you to loved ones and activities: home, work, school, shopping, and fun. Your comfortable journey means listening to your needs and constantly improving our services. It is about reliability, safety, and making travel easy. It’s a high-quality service and an art experience at Tram City. Well, it's good that there's less car traffic in the city center now, and maybe you can go easily from the city center to the Kauppi campus for work and then head home soon. There's also a tram to the west, letting you travel there by tram. Yes, it really makes a big difference that you don't have to commute to school and the city center every day. This is especially important since I live here in Hervanta, and I wouldn't know what to do without the tram. The Tampere tram is more than just a means of transportation.By Tampereen Ratikka - .

Tampere, Finland City Tour with Tram Line 3 (2023)This Video was captured with a focus on Tampere's Tam line 3 route. The Tampere light rail (Finnish: Tampereen raitiotie), branded as Tampere Tram (Finnish: Tampereen Ratikka), is a public transport system in Tampere, Finland. In November 2016, the Tampere city council approved plans to construct a 330-million-euro light rail system on the route from the city centre to Hervanta and to the Tampere University Hospital. Traffic on the first two lines of the route (lines 1 and 3) commenced on August 9, 2021.By WalkTube - .
Christmas greetings from Tampere Light Rail (2022)
1:51
Christmas greetings from Tampere Light Rail (2022)Here's a Christmas greeting from Pekka Sirvio of Tampere Light Rail in Finland. The track has many similarities with Odense, as it runs from the city center to a large university area outside the town. It was opened a little before Odense Light Rail, specifically in August 2021. Tampere is also one of Odense's 20 sister cities. It is Finland's third-largest city and the largest inland city in the Nordic region, with about 220,000 residents. Tomorrow, greetings from Tampere, or as some might say, Trump. My name is Peg Casillia, and I am the CEO of Temperature. We are inside one of our temperature 20 Trump cars. This one is the unique Autumn car. It is nearly Christmas. We have a lot to be grateful for; we have had a hectic and exciting year behind us. Tramway has been operating for a little over a year, since we began the service in August 2021. Our construction process was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. It's been truly remarkable to see how passengers have embraced this new mode of public transportation and have used the tramway so extensively—nearly 50 million journeys have been made by tram. Additionally, customer satisfaction and reliability consistently remain at very high levels. You might have noticed that the success and popularity of Tampere have become a topic of conversation, and the tramway is an essential part of those discussions. Our successful project is not only part of Tampere’s charm but also a new and innovative product for temporary residents. At the same time, more tramways are being built in the western part of our city, and a few other cities are considering doing the same. In short, it can be said that the tramway era is progressing as expected. But now, it's time to relax a bit and celebrate Christmas. Let me take this opportunity to wish you a peaceful and joyful holiday season and a wonderful new year, as both Tampere and Odense continue to ensure that the tramway remains reliable and easy to use, even in the years to come. Merry Christmas!By Odense Letbane - .

The Way We Move - Tampere Tramway | Nysse (2022)

The Way We Move - Tampere Tramway | Nysse (2022)Discover how public transport and the concept of sustainable mobility have evolved in the Tampere region, with the tram now integrated into a completely new public transportation system. 🚌🚋🚃🚲 This film about Tampere regional transport, Nysse, is part of the new online series 'The Way We Move,' which features inspiring transportation stories filmed around the world. From a young age, I've been drawing and painting a lot. I work as a graphic designer during the day, but I also create my own art. One of my most successful pieces is 'Ram,' which I believe is among the largest I've made. I am a Finnish artist and designer, and I designed the winning layout for the Tampere Art Fair competition. I noticed a tram that resembled organic shapes as it moved along the tracks, which gave me the idea to incorporate natural elements. I selected various items, including insects and flowers, to design this pattern. I used reflective tape that glows in the dark because we have very dark winters, and I wanted to include something that provides light and joy, making people happy when they see it. It's a charming feeling to see it moving around. It was a big surprise that my work won, especially since it was voted the winning piece with about 17,000 votes. It was exciting to see how people reacted to it. During the development phase, there was a strong level of citizen involvement. The most visible design elements—the colors, wooden seats, and fabrics—were all chosen by the public. My name is Ali Hutunan, and I work for Tampere Limited as the Head of Rolling Stock. Accessibility was especially considered, including ease of movement in and out of the tram and inside it. Children, design firms, construction companies, and the tram manufacturer tested everything. We gathered feedback from buyers and stakeholders, and I believe that strong partnerships are crucial. I always want to listen to people, and we’re collecting feedback to improve the system continually. The tram system is a solution for the future, not just for today’s problems. The cityscape has undergone significant changes—Main Street is now a living room for its residents, fully renovated with good connections to other areas and fast, synchronized traffic schedules. Within a few years, the total length of tram tracks is expected to reach 23 kilometers. New neighborhoods are being developed in various locations near existing lines. Since we live pretty far out in Tampere, we take the tram. In the evenings, I meet friends, we eat and drink, and then it's easy to get back home by tram. It’s clean, modern, and people take great pride in it. It’s a wonderful place to live because it has everything you need, but not too much of it. This truly is my hometown. By Tampereen Ratikka - .

If all goes to plan, the last part / parts will be out in a month or so, when i get time to record and all that. I really do enjoy the trams but filming takes a while since im not a local. This video focuses on the Hakametsä and Sammonaukio stops, completing the 3 filming between Sammonaukio and Hervanta. This video is more urban where tram speeds are lower and stops are closer to eachother. I hope you enjoy! The last part / parts will focus on line 1 and the rest of line 3. Trams / Light rail at Tampere pt1 (2022)Due to recording issues, the video mutes from 1:27 to 1:33. A few days ago, I went to Tampere to film the tram / light rail system. This system currently has two lines: line 1 runs between Sorin aukio and Kaupin kampus. Then there is line 3 running between Pyynikintori and Hervantajärvi stops. The system is really young, only beginning revenue service a year or so ago. With that, Tampere became the first city in Finland to introduce light rail at least until the Jokerilinja light rail opens in Helsinki. Although lines 1 and 3 are now operational, line 2 is under construction and will open sometime in mid-2024. This is only the start for the system, with many other extensions being planned in the future. This video features line 3 trams at Turtola and Hallila, and the window view between those two stations. Part 2 will feature trams at Hakametsä and Sammonaukio. Part 3 will feature trams on line 1 and the line 3 stretch between Sammonaukio and Pyynikintori (part 3 is not yet recorded so that the release will take a while). Part 2 will come out in a week or so. With all that said, I hope you enjoy the video and the ones that follow! Introduction of Tampere Ratika (2020)
4:41
Introduction of Tampere Ratika (2020)Hop on board and meet Tampere Ratikaa, led by fleet manager Ali Huttunen. Welcome to the Tampere Tram. I am Ali Huttunen, fleet manager of the Tampere Tramway. I will now show you around the brand-new Tampere Tram. The Tampere Tram is part of Skoda Transtech’s Arctic product family. The Tram can be driven in both directions, with driver’s cabs at both ends, three articulated car sections, and four bogies. The tram has low floors throughout. The floor height by the doorways is 35 centimetres, the same as at the tram stops, which allows for unimpeded access into the tram. There are directional rails on the tram floor for the visually impaired that lead directly from the doors to the seats reserved for these passengers. Special attention was paid to the Tram’s visibility in the car’s lighting and to the safety of pedestrians in the Tram’s shape and design. The front of the vehicle is tilted backwards and has no sharp protruding parts. The design of the tram car began in 2017. The chosen designer has made this Tram a part of Tampere. There are many details here that have a connection to Tampere. The citizens of Tampere voted for the colour of the Tram. They chose brick red, which reflects Tampere’s industrial history. Additionally, this pattern features numerous details that are closely tied to Pirkanmaa and Tampere. You can recognise the regional tree of Pirkanmaa – the bird cherry, our regional bird, and some other information. There is also word art in the car, located so that you can spot it while traveling. First, you find them here in the car, and then you can identify the texts and even their authors. All in all, the Tram has 104 seats, as well as room for standing passengers, making its total capacity 264. The car is very spacious, and it is easy to move around with large luggage, bicycles, assistive equipment, and strollers. There is plenty of room for them, as well. The tram features various built-in innovative technologies, most notably in the information system, as well as in the car’s indoor lighting. The lighting adjusts automatically based on external lighting, and the colour temperature can be adjusted according to the season and time of day, so that the car’s lighting is brighter in the morning and toned down in the afternoon. The idea of traveling is that the Tram always stops at the same spot at the tram stop. The Tram is entered and exited through the middle doors. Another option is to exit the Tram from the doors at the ends of the car. Next, we will move on to the driver’s domain. Drivers have participated in designing the ergonomics of this cab. The working conditions were, of course, the starting point for the design. This is easy to drive. There are several ways to adjust the driving position to ensure comfort. Visibility from the cab was also an essential aspect in designing the ergonomics. The driver has good outward visibility, and they can also see the car’s sides and door areas from cameras placed outside the vehicle. Welcome to the Tampere Tram next year when the traffic begins. It will be possible for the first time as early as April. I hope to see all of you here then.By Tampereen Ratikka - .
Tampere's first tram walkaround (2020)
1:58
Tampere's first tram walkaround (2020)Tampere's first tramway was unveiled on 8 June 2020. It is the first fully-fledged tramway to be built and will one day run on Tampere's rails. The Tampere light rail or tramway is a public transport system under construction in Tampere, Finland. Studies on the viability of a light rail system in Tampere have been conducted since 2001 as part of regional plans for public transport alongside heavy rail and bus solutions. This is the first test drive of the upcoming rail system with a test tram. The Tampere tramway will start trial runs with a test tram in mid-March 2020. The tram is an entirely new means of transport in Tampere. It is essential to review the traffic rules and be attentive to ensure that everyone can move around together smoothly and safely. The tramway will be built in Tampere in two phases. In the first phase, it will be built from Pyynikintori to Hervanta and the Taysi area from 2017 to 2021. The planning of part 2 is underway, and the aim is to make the track from Pyynikintori to Lentävänniemi in 2021–2024. The tram enables Tampere's growth and development in many ways. In addition to offering a new form of transport, it connects homes, schools, workplaces, and services. An attractive city provides its residents with high-quality services, a pleasant environment, and a smooth everyday life where movement is effortless. The tram is a path to a smoother and cleaner everyday life. The Tampere tram is being built to make your everyday life smoother. It will provide Tampere with an even more efficient and environmentally friendly means of public transport. The barrier-free Tram is easy to board with strollers, wheelchairs, and people in wheelchairs, and travel is comfortable thanks to the air conditioning and spacious spaces. The tram works will renew Tampere's streetscape and will receive, among other things, a completely new Hämeenkatu. Since the new, convenient means of transport can accommodate three busloads of passengers, space can be freed up from the central main streets of the city centre and Hervanta for walking, cycling, and lounging. The reliability of bus transport will also improve on feeder routes as bus routes become shorter. This will enhance the possibility of using electric buses on short routes. Lower-emission public transport will improve the quality of air in the busiest areas of Tampere. The tram also offers significant indirect emission reductions, which are created when the urban structure can be densified and public transport services can be improved and provided to more and more people.By Jukka O.
