Presentation of the new Skoda track (2023)Clear the way for the mobility transition in Bonn. It bears the number 2252 and was eagerly awaited in Bonn: The first of 28 new trams from Skoda arrived in Bonn at the start of February 2023. Since then, tests and training have been conducted to ensure the drivers are prepared to operate the new trams. This is a very, very happy day. We are absolutely thrilled that our first new tram has arrived, even if just for testing purposes. It looks fantastic, and we are proud to have introduced many new features this year. The new Germany ticket fits together perfectly. This is a truly significant day, almost a historic moment for the city of Bonn. We have new trams for the first time in around 30 years. That is, of course, very special, and public transit is the backbone of the mobility transition. That’s why it’s a significant contribution to climate protection in our city today. We will be able to increase the frequency and improve the service, making it simply fantastic. Since these are brand-new products, and it’s been 30 years since we last ordered new ones, everything in terms of technology is state-of-the-art. We offer ticketing and digitalization options, and we’ve considered every aspect to make it easier for passengers—both when boarding and in appearance—utilizing all the technology available today. Additionally, there are many new technical features, including the appearance. Behind me is the train, and above the doors, there is a small box that indicates, in an ideal situation, when the train recognizes someone standing on the platform. The door opens automatically; you no longer need to press the button, although you still have the option to do so. These are some of the differences. The trains now feature air conditioning with a climate-neutral or climate-friendly coolant, an attractive interior, and are slightly larger—approximately 8% more passengers can fit inside.
