The former Kiel tram. Vintage tram in Kiel Trailer from tram-TV (1985)On May 4, 1985, the last scheduled tram, TW 270, arrived at the Gaarden depot. Line 4 was the last of the ten Kiel tram lines. On July 8, 1881, the Kiel tram was opened as a horse-drawn tram with a track width of 1100 mm. This unusual track width was only used in Lübeck and Braunschweig, Germany. Since the 1960s, DÜWAG large-capacity railcars in double traction and six-axle DÜWAG articulated railcars with a two-axle trailer have been used. This film also features images of Line 2, which was discontinued in 1969. Previously unpublished amateur material has been painstakingly digitized and compiled in this film. Experience once again the charm of the route and its vehicles, the fashion, and the ambience of the 1980s. This film shows many of the work railcars that were still in existence at that time. Our film about Kiel takes us on a journey through history. There hasn't been a tram in the city since 1985. We secured extensive footage from that era showing how operations worked. All of the material was digitized and put into context. A railway worker shares his experiences in an interview and offers new insights. With line 4, we travel nearly the entire route of this streetcar and also showcase rare vehicles like this Magirus Deutz overhead line vehicle. It's almost hard to believe that vehicles over 100 years old were still running in Kiel until the very end. Yet, relatively modern open-plan carriages from Düwak around 1957 and 1958 also ran on the tracks. One highlight was the Asmus Bremen transshipment tram, known for its distinctive noise. Kiel tram (1985)With line 4, we journey through the city and its transport history. The film captures the rustic, bumpy ride of Kiel's last tram line, which was discontinued in 1985. Its lively portrayal is enriched with old film footage and numerous photos documenting Kiel's tram development. It’s April 1985. Line 4 is Kiel's final tram line, but it only has a one-month grace period. Service will end on May 5th. We travel from the Wellingdorf neighborhood to the last stop in Wieg. The trip takes us across the city. We learn about Kiel’s unique features and history. We find relics reminding us of the tram's golden days. We briefly follow some of these clues. Mainly, we want to ride the tram because soon it won’t be possible in Kiel. The tram’s interior is full of character, and its look has remained the same as 25 years ago when it first ran. Much has stayed the same; it just appears a little yellowed and worn now. Some parts are new, others remain unused and unreplaced. We pass the shipyard area. For over 100 years, Kiel's prosperity has been linked to shipbuilding. When Kiel became an imperial naval port in 1871, the shipyards fueled the city's economic growth. For centuries, more than 30,000 people worked at Kiel’s shipyards. Today, only about 5,000 remain. Z shit, we're reaching Garden. The shipyard industry has had the most significant impact on this district. In under 50 years, a real town grew here from the small villages of Fürstengarten and Kirchlich Garten. The thousands of shipyard worker families who settled here have preserved this area’s character to this day. The tram line mostly winds on a single track through narrow streets, from Elisabethstraße through Augustenstraße to Schulstraße. Line four has always linked this district to the city center on the west bank. It’s mainly a working neighborhood. The Garden Depot is Kielbahn’s last tram depot. Trains are serviced and repaired there even now, and it’s where their daily city journeys start. Old film footage shows what life was like at the depot in the early 1960s.By MrBT - .

Ah, this brings back childhood memories, when I used to ride on the DÜWAGs in Cologne around that time. Damn, I wish I could have filmed back then.
