The Dubai Tram rolls out to the public (2014)Commuting in Dubai has become much easier now that the Dubai Tram is open to the public.
Commuting in Dubai has become much easier since the Dubai tram opened to the public on November 11th, 2014. This highly anticipated rail system serves the JBR, Marina, and Sufouh areas, spanning 10.6 km with 11 stations and 11 trams in the initial stage. Fourteen additional trams are expected to be added, raising the total to 25. Six more stations will bring the entire tram network to 31 stations upon completion of the second stage. Each tram measures 44 meters in length and can accommodate 400 riders. They feature Gold Class, Ladies, and Silver Class cabins. Passenger platforms are air-conditioned, extend 45 meters, and are fitted with screen doors, automated doors, and fare collection machines. The tram saw a large number of riders on its first full day of operation, and passengers are very pleased with this new, innovative mode of transportation. One passenger said, "It was very nice. It's modern and resembles a metro station, yet it still boasts a nice design. We can say in general, yeah, it's the first time seeing it here." Another mentioned that yesterday’s inauguration made them feel good and that it's very convenient. They plan to use it daily for their commute to and from the office. The tram is expected to serve about 27,000 riders from its start in 2014, with ridership anticipated to reach around 66,000 by 2020. This will significantly reduce road congestion in an area known for heavy traffic.By Gulf News - .
