The Sporvejsmuseet collects rails on Frederikssundsvej (2016)
1:37
The Sporvejsmuseet collects rails on Frederikssundsvej (2016)On 3 February 2016, Erik Storgaard from Sporvejsmuseet Skjoldenæsholm collected the first load of rails from Frederikssundsvej in connection with the construction of the new busway to line 5A. The introduction of Harskårvejen on Borups Allé occurred in 2016. It has been over 36 years since Frederiksundsvejten was inaugurated, which happened on October 5, 1969. This event allowed drivers to travel from Mosesvinget to Bisbæbuen without worrying about traffic on Frederiksundsvej. The construction of the tunnel required raising Frederiksundsvej, which also led the Copenhagen Railway to lay new rails, even though the railway service had only a few years left. Due to the new bus route for line 5A, the section from the fire station to Bellerhøj is now being reclaimed, revealing the latest rails. The Sporvandsmuseet in Skjørnesholm already collected the first load of rails on Wednesday, February 3, and additional loads will be gathered the following week. In May 2017, the current buses will be replaced with articulated buses, and line 5A will adopt the plusway concept.By SporvognDK - .

The two trams from Alexandria return - TV-Lorry (2001)
2:40
The two trams from Alexandria return - TV-Lorry (2001)It was a shame that Washington, DC's streetcars were eliminated from September 1958 to January 1962. Had the Washington streetcars been kept, the 99 Copenhagen Duwag streetcars could have been bought by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in 1969 and served from 1970 to 2015. Then, two former Copenhagen Streetcars could have been transported back from Washington, DC, to Copenhagen via the Antonov 225, the world's largest freight plane. I recall the streetcars in Copenhagen from my visit to the city in 1969-1970 when I was 7 years old. I am too young to remember the Washington, D.C., streetcars in their first guise. Very ambitious. I'm sure D.C. would've ordered trams/streetcars a bit closer to home. The problem, I reckon, was that, like the railroads, there was an increasing interest in cars, which unfortunately killed most of the streetcar lines around the US. I think it was Detroit where General Motors bought the entire network, only to close it and eventually force people into cars. But it's not a big shame. Watching, I see the Düsseldorf cars were abandoned at the same period. In Brazil, Rio de Janeiro has a significant number of parked vehicles that are left stopped and abandoned in the weather after work. This is a real big shame! Egypt was a strong presence in this field, as it began operating the Alexandria tram in 1863 AD and started using electricity in 1902 AD. It operates in the tram network of the city of Alexandria, including the sand line known as the Blue Tram, the city center line, and is an icon that starts from the branch lines, such as the line west of the city, called the Yellow Tram. The government's e-mail continued the development of the city's tram network. More information and pictures: https://alymousa.blogspot.com/2019/11/blog-post_26.htmlBy Peter Andersen - .

With its short line, it was supposed to be particularly attractive to older tram users, which is why it was nicknamed "The Pension Train" and "The Old Man's Line". The first trams entered service as early as 1930. Lunding's elegant combination of platform and central entrance trams aroused great admiration among experts. Later, the trams were converted to permanent conductors and the original elegance was lost. Line 7 was converted to bus operation on 25 April 1971. Folkeviddet had its own special relationship with line 8, and the daily newspaper "Politiken" often reported on the back page "At tønke sig" about conductor Fodklang and conductor Strop. Perhaps this is also why in the summer you can experience line 8 on rubber wheels in "Tivoli". Poster: Copenhagen (1984)Poster: Copenhagen (1984)From Hønen to HT HT celebrated its 10th birthday on 1 October 1984 - but the transport company has roots much further back. Copenhagen's trams - which were part of HT as the largest single company when it was established in 1974 - can trace their origins all the way back to the Copenhagen Railway Company, which was founded in 1863. It established its first horse-drawn tram line on 22 October from Frederiksberg Runddel, along Frederiksberg Allé and Vesterbrogade to Kvægtorvet - now Trommesalen. In 1897, accumulator trams began to run on Nørrebrogade. However, they quickly became unpopular due to the acid smell. The nickname "acid trams" was then attached to the trams. They were later converted into "ordinary" electric trams. In 1898, all the Copenhagen companies were merged into "A/S De Kjøbenhavnske Sporveje". 1899 heralded the new times. Electric tram operations were established with a 10-øre unit rate, and horse-drawn tram operations could see their end in sight. In 1911, "Københavns Sporvej" followed as a municipal transport company by taking over "A/S De Kjøbenhavnske Sporveje". In 1913, motor bus operations began, the last horse-drawn tram "Hønen" on Nørregade disappeared in 1915 and two years later the last horse-drawn omnibus. In 1919, Københavns Sporveje took over the red double-decker trams on Frederiksberg. They ran until 1933 as yellow - some can still remember them from line 18. In the same year, the converted "acid cars" from 1897 made their last trip, and in 1936 the open side cars became too cold for the Copenhagen residents. Most of them were sold to Helsingsfors. In the 1930s, the tramways were in a period of growth with several new bus lines and the extension of tram lines. During the war, the trams had a large load to pull, as private cars and bicycles were almost out of action due to a lack of fuel and rubber. 1984 Some buses ran with gas generators fired by beechwood, but it was the trams that were the absolutely necessary means of transport for the wartime Copenhageners. In the 1950s, Copenhagen Tramway began to acquire larger and more modern buses (now line 40). Most of the other tram lines were "busified" in the 1960s, and on the night of 23 April 1972, tram line 5 was the last to be retired. The articulated trams ("Düsseldorferne") were sent to Egypt, where they are still running. The formation of the Capital Region Transport Company in 1974 was a milestone, as it was now possible to coordinate bus operations in the entire capital region. In 1975, the new zone fare system was established, and in 1979, the tokens were replaced by the new clip cards. All train and bus journeys from Helsingør in the north to Køge in the south could then be made on the same ticket or card. The development continues - disabled and telebuses have been added, and more noise- low and energy-saving bus types are constantly being developed. The old trams and buses - all the way back from "Hønen" in 1880 - can now be seen at HT's new museum on Islevsdalsvej in Rødovre. You can go there with lines 13, 148 and 161 - the latter passes Friheden, Rødovre, Husum and Lyngby S-stations. It is open Wednesday and Saturday 10 am-4 pm. Farewell Cavalcade for the last tram in Copenhagen (1972)
3:38
Farewell Cavalcade for the last tram in Copenhagen (1972)New modern trams, but too late. In Copenhagen, in 1960, at long last, they began to acquire new articulated vehicles from the factory Düvag in Germany. They were called "Mrs. Düsseldorf”, but unfortunately they arrived too late. In the capital, the conversion to bus operation was based on plans from 1962, where only the most used tram lines were to remain until the city got its subway. The argument that the buses could be operated by one person, while a tram required three men in the engine and sidecar won the politicians' attention. In addition, according to Copenhagen's Sporveje, trams could not be operated by one person, which the rest of Europe was not aware of. These plans were already changed in 1965 so that all tram lines had to be converted to bus operation within 10 years. The conversion was carried out at a record pace, so already on 22 April 1972 the last tram on line 5 ran in draw for the last time. The next day, Copenhageners could say goodbye to their beloved trams at a farewell cavalcade. Many citizens had protested the massive demolitions, but they were ignored. When the tramway network in Copenhagen was the largest, there was a line network of 99.8 km. with 18 different lines. In today's kroner, this investment would correspond to approx. DKK 20 billionBy mikljnsn - .

Last day of Trams in Copenhagen (1972)Filmed by Finn Erik Larsen. Remember, I'm the most important because I'm the driver of the carriage. It turns by itself when the track makes a turn. I'm the one who decides when we stop and when we go. Sorry, I woke you up because it's me who says ding, so just don't be arrogant. Thank you. You're just a clown who will never be on this carriage again. Oh crap, there's always a tram and a girl for my rank as a carriage animal, and you can never get on. I think I'll get on even more. It sounds exciting for the passenger I ride with the girl in the forest. That sounds right. But you never get that now. A girl, there's always a girl, a tram, a girl, a tram, a girl for pride. I stand for everyone's gaze, like a gallant figure. Yes. And when they see you, they immediately look the other way. HP Sørensen stands with me every time he drives the ride. But the pretty girls always come around to me. Look, there she is, with the shape; she waves from a balcony. There she stood in front of the platform. So, there's always a tram and a girl for you. Then the girl must put the ladder on. He's jealous of the little one now. And remember, it's me who's standing at the wheel of the carriage. Now the tram is steering straight. Circus Mie for us two is done. And what will you do then? There's always a tram, a girl, a tram, a girl, a tram. I've become a symbol on line 8. It's a good thing—you can see for yourself. You're a bit crazy; you've soon turned the whole line into an anecdote. Poor thing, you can hear you were only born to be a conductor. I do everything with flying colors. Yes, maybe on song. Hans, a man like me, can always get a chance. There's always a track and a girl for one of the parts; you have to let yourself go. No, both parts get tired of you. Ah, if I want, then it's just a word, and Eva says no. No jumps, Dny and Sofie, then the carriage drives express from heaven to. There's always a girl, a tram, a girl, an SP carriage, a girl too.

Original clip: City Engineers Directorate film collection, TMF film. The clip has been restored to 2K resolution and interpolated to 60 FPS using artificial intelligence. The most important thing about Vesterbro is that what is today called Vesterbrogade, which partly lies on old country roads or the old main road—since roads change over time—is that the original country road into the city port dates back, let's say, to the Viking Age. That’s where most of Zealand originally came from. If you're from Funen, Jutland, Lolland, Falster, Germany, England, and so on, you're coming through the Middle Ages along that country road into Vesterport. Picture yourself arriving from the countryside and looking down toward the island where the fish market and houses are today—the old shoreline actually ran along Halmtorvet and Sønderboulevard. Previously, there was a sea view when entering the city. Large green fields, cattle, and grass once lined the area. We know from the 13th century that the city's citizens could pasture their cattle without paying grazing taxes, which were a tax on the city's common land. The term 'fælledpakken,' which is preserved in Amarfælde, refers to the city's shared grazing area. As for Vesterbro, as we know it today, it appears like a big bridge guard. When did it start taking shape? It actually only formed in the latter half of the 19th century, after 1852, when the military demarcation line was moved. This line arose after the Swedish siege of 168-60—when they burned parts of Vesterbro, among other areas. After they withdrew, the city required protection, so they established a demarcation zone—a kind of invisible line. Initially, it was positioned inside the lakes, extending to Copenhagen's fortifications—Vestervold, Nørrevold, and Østervold—where only low, lightweight buildings could be constructed. This was because, in the event of an attack, these areas could be burned to prevent enemy access. It was effective for its purpose until the English arrived in 1807, when they established a British military presence of 30,000 soldiers around Copenhagen. Once they left, the line was moved outward—roughly to where Karlsberg is today—and followed Pileal, Allegade, Jagtvej, all the way to Falkoneralæ and out to Øresund. This larger zone only permitted low-rise, light buildings—anything except brick or stone, just a single story. That might have worked well in the 18th century, but by the 19th century, industrialization and population growth caused a boom. People poured into the city from the countryside, especially from the west, and expanded beyond Copenhagen's walls. The town was exploding—adding floors to existing buildings, extending into backyards—and eventually, space became scarce. In 1852, it was evident that the existing arrangement was unsustainable. The demarcation line was moved back to the lakes—restoring the original line—and by 1870, it was abolished entirely as Copenhagen's fortifications were dismantled. After that, from 1852 to the 1920s, there was significant development along the bridge crossings. For comparison, Vesterbro’s population grew from 1,711 in 1841 to 6,500 by 1901. Once the demarcation line was gone, streets were laid out over the old field ditches, building on both sides—and that’s when it became quieter and more peaceful. But then came explosive growth, and they filled in the water. In the 1890s, Vesterbro’s terrain was doubled with land reclamation. Specifically, they filled in Langshavej—an entire stretch—so if you're arriving by train in Copenhagen, you might imagine spotting a Viking ship sticking its nose up between the tracks. This history is closely tied to Vesterbro's development, especially the amusement park scene. The story starts in the 17th century, with the emergence of the first amusement parks in the 18th century. Picture that in Vesterbro, there were once large plots of land, which at some point during the 18th century were divided into two big pieces of land.By Kend Din By - - .

Copenhagen Tram Line 10 Accident at the Carlsberg Bridge (1958)

Copenhagen Tram Line 10 Accident at the Carlsberg Bridge (1958)In 1958, a serious tram accident occurred at the Carlsberg Bridge in Copenhagen, which could easily have turned into a major disaster. A line 10 tram derailed, drove through the bridge's railing, and crashed down the railway slope towards the railway ditch. At the same time, the Hamburg Express was on its way to Hovedbanegården at a speed of 80 km. Miraculously, they managed to stop the express, thanks to three healthy state railway workers who resolutely ran to meet the train and gave the driver a stop signal. He therefore got the express train to speed up so that it stopped right at the bridge. Several passengers suffered minor injuries, but it must be considered miraculous that the dramatic accident did not cost human life.

Last Tram. Gunnar Lemvigh with Emsemble. Copenhagen (1941)Last Tram is a Danish comedy record that makes fun of the overcrowded trams, which were running for the last time just after midnight during World War II in Denmark. Gunnar Lemvigh (1909-1979) was a Danish singer, comedian, and movie actor. He appeared in 52 films between 1939 and 1977. Recorded several 78rpm records during the 1940s. Aage Juhl Thomsen (1899-1979), a popular Danish band leader, was also one of the pioneers of Danish jazz in the late 1920s and the 1930s.

Unseen color footage of Denmark | Remastered (1920)A kaleidoscopic journey through Denmark. First, a tour of Copenhagen with, among other things, Tivoli, the Town Hall Square, the Marble Church, Amalienborg, Dr. Louise's Bridge, and the usual busy everyday life in the capital, as well as the nature in Dyrehaven a little north of Copenhagen. From Zealand, you can see, among other things, Stevns Klint with Gammel Højerup Church, the Gåsetårnet in Vordingborg, Fredensborg Castle, Nakkehoved Lighthouse in Gilleleje, and Kronborg Castle. There are plenty of shots of the bathing life on the beaches in North Zealand and the rocky coast of Bornholm. On Funen, you can see Christiansminde at Svendborg and the ferry to Tåsinge. From Jutland you can see, among other things, The Silkeborg Islands, Himmelbjerget, Ålborg, which is connected to Nørresundby by two bridges, Skagen with Holger Drachmann's grave, the west coast of Jutland (presumably Thorup Strand and Bovbjerg), Esbjerg with the fishing port, Fanø, Ribe with its cathedral and old houses, Møgeltønder, Schackenborg Castle, Dybbøl and Sønderborg, Galgebakken and Brundlund Castle with the Slotsmøllen in Aabenraa, Gråsten Castle, Haderslev, Århus Cathedral, Koldinghus and the traffic hub Fredericia, which connects Funen and Jutland, as well as Vejle. 00:25 Copenhagen: The Thorvaldsen Museum 00:38 Copenhagen: Holmens Kirke - The maritime church Holmens Kirke 01:43 Copenhagen: Tivoli main entrance from inside.
