Bergen Light Rail (Bybanen) Ride: Flesland Airport - Kokstadflaten (2018)On my recent trip to Bergen, my first time in Norway, I had to leave the airport briefly just to say I had ventured beyond it! This is a short clip of a ride aboard Bybanen, the Bergen Light Railway, on a Variotram/Variobahn tram from Flesland Lufthavn (Bergen Airport) to the first stop, Kokstadflaten. Also shows trams departing and arriving at Kokstadflaten. Recorded in 4K resolution on a Google XL Smartphone on Friday 17th August 2018.By Byte Travel - .

Tram cab ride in Bergen, Norway (2018)
27:14
Tram cab ride in Bergen, Norway (2018)Pennula takes viewers on a tram ride, specifically a ride in the cab of a tram, through the Norwegian city of Bergen. We travel from the Nesttun district to the city center. The Bergen Light Rail ("Bybanen i Bergen") opened on June 22, 2010. The line shown in the video, from Nesttun in the Fana district to the city center, is about ten kilometers long. In 2013, the line was extended by an additional four kilometers to Rådal. Four years later, in 2017, the final section to Bergen Airport opened. However, a tram is not new to Bergen; between 1897 and 1965, there was already a tram system ("Trikken i Bergen"), which operated only within the city center. But back then, the route network didn’t reach the rapidly expanding suburbs around the city, which led to the complete shutdown of the tram system in the late 1960s. Replacing rail with buses was only a temporary fix, as traffic problems in Bergen grew worse over time. The daily traffic jams, even on tolled ring roads and bypasses, sparked ideas for re-establishing a light rail system. Construction finally started in August 2007 with a groundbreaking ceremony. The ten-kilometer route shown in the video connects the southern suburb of Nesttun to Bergen’s city center. The journey begins at Nesttun Terminal, where the route was built like a conventional railway, allowing speeds up to 80 km/h. After the Hop stop, the tram passes through the Tveiterås Tunnel (443 meters) and Paradis. It then travels through the Fantoft Tunnel (1107 meters) to Fantoft Station. From there, it continues through the Slettebakks Tunnel (412 meters) and reaches Slettebakken and Sletten stations. The route then enters the Fagerås Tunnel (663 meters) and arrives at the Wergeland stop. The Fagerås Tunnel features a 6% grade and a curve radius of 150 meters. From the next stop, Brann Stadion, the tram heads to Kronstad, where the route becomes more scenic as it approaches the city center. The driver's cab offers a nearly tourist-like view of various districts. The subsequent stops are Gamle Vossebanen, Kronstad Depot, and Danmarks Plass. The tram crosses the Nygård Bridge and reaches Florida Station. It then proceeds through Nygård, Bystasjonen, and Nonneseter. The journey concludes at Byparken, a significant transportation hub near the city park, with connections to all bus lines in the city center. The tram in Bergen was opened on June 22, 2010 as a city railway and today has a route length of 13.4 km. The vehicles used are Variobahns from Stadler Rail. Further routes are planned, such as to Bergen Airport. There was already a tram here from 1897 to 1965. In addition to the normal bus service, Bergen also has the trolleybus and a funicular for public transport. Skyss Bybanen (2014)

Skyss Bybanen (2014)What a journey! We are delighted that so many people want to travel with Bybanen. We also see many positive ripple effects for our city in the wake of the development and look forward to its continuation. Welcome on board! It has been quite a journey ever since the queen cut the ribbon in June 2010—a fantastic day for Bergen. Some said no one was going to take him, while others said he makes too much noise. Still, the Bybanen quietly pulled out of Byparken so quietly that it actually took some time to get used to it as it moved through the city center southward, from Bergensdalen, the city station Nygård, and not Florida. Still, Flor Bergen—Bergen is not the Sunshine State nor the Rainfall City. The Bybanen, for example, means letting go and checking the routes. There's always a new light rail, and when the cars are jammed across Danmarks Plass, the Bybanen drives on its own track. With more and more passengers—football supporters, shoppers, and students—I was strongly opposed to the Bybanen from the very beginning. But now, gradually, I think he is very handsome. I am very excited about the increase from 14,000 passengers a day at the start to over 30,000. I could imagine adding a few more carriages. He has become so popular that it can almost be too much of a good thing, even though the number of carriages has increased from six to 17 and the number of departures has risen to 12 an hour. Where the Light Rail goes, people come from homes, businesses, shops, hairdressers, schools, and cafes. In 2013, the terminal at Lagunen opened here—people changed from bus to rail and from car to rail. We have eliminated the car, so now we take public transport everywhere. The Light Rail is the backbone of all public transportation in Bergen, providing stability and transformation—changing the way we travel. Almost half of the sports Light Rail users say they travel more or much more by public transport after the Light Rail came. But we are not stopping here; we are moving further. We will reach the large workplaces in Sansli and Kokstad before the Light Rail arrives at Bergen Airport Flesland in 2016, with more and longer carriages and around 500,000 passengers on a busy day. Yes, it has been quite a journey, and it isn't over yet for a long time to come.By SkyssTube - .
Bergen Light Rail / Bybanen will continue (2013)
4:35
Bergen Light Rail / Bybanen will continue (2013)Work on the third construction stage is well underway. Bergen is growing. More and more people want to live between the seven mountains, and increasingly, they want to use what will serve as the backbone of Bergen's future urban development. City residents connect Bergen on the road to an even better city. Living in Bergen now offers an environmentally friendly, reliable, and accessible alternative transportation option for everyone who lives and works within walking distance of the line. Twenty years of planning have come to fruition, and the City's residents have achieved success. It will continue through the mountains and along the city with terraced houses. City residents have been riding the rails for nearly three years, from the city center to the second end and back, with 15 stops over a distance of less than a mile. Every weekday, there are currently 31,000 boardings, and the number is expected to grow. The light rail has become an integral part of daily life, making new urban areas more attractive. As Bergen develops, the city must be built densely, aiming for population growth without expanding into large, undeveloped areas. Many homes will be built along planned routes, and new district centers will serve as local gathering points. The new Bergen is being constructed in an area where public transportation coverage is expanding. Here, Ker Trinn 2 officially opened with celebrations on that day. Construction phase 2 opened in June 2013, with a new line extending from Nestun to Lagunen, featuring five new stops over 3.5 kilometers and orange carriages that transport you smoothly to a convenient public transport hub near the region's largest shopping center. A bus terminal with an interchange hub was established here in 2016. It is an ambitious and complex project involving many parties. Over 7 kilometers of rails will be laid, and seven stops will connect the district through six tunnels. People will be transported to work, including in Kokstad and Sansli, and travelers will enjoy a comfortable trip from the airport to the city center. The final stop will be integrated into a new terminal building at Flesland, located at the Birkeland intersection, which will feature a bus terminal, bicycle parking, and a parking garage with space for 280 cars dedicated to public transport users. The construction of the light rail also involves restructuring infrastructure such as water and sewage systems. During this phase, the light rail lines will be extended and their capacity increased. You can expect to see new pedestrian and cycling paths along the route. The light rail is accessible, easy to walk on, predictable, and offers frequent departures. Passengers can rely on them arriving on time. Comfortable seats, minimal noise, and a lively yet pleasant atmosphere make for a good start to the workday. Step-free boarding ensures easy access for all users. Through large windows, passengers can enjoy views of the city and high-quality performing arts specifically designed for the route. The project has won numerous national and international awards, including the prestigious award for the world's best city rail project. The design of seats, carriages, graphic profile, and uniforms has given the light rail a cohesive and distinctive identity. We have successfully built a strong brand. City residents look forward to new districts and stops, which will bring more travelers and have positive ripple effects for neighbors and businesses along the line.By Hordaland fylkeskommune - .
