The Alte Tramdepot Brewery & Restaurant is located on Bärengraben, in the historic heart of Bern. The Bern Minster, the Old Town, and the Aare River are right in front of you. Enjoy this beautiful view from both the small and large beer gardens.
You can easily reach the Alte Tramdepot on foot, by bus, or by car. Car and bus parking is conveniently located nearby.
ONCE UPON A TIME...
From 1890 to 1901, a compressed-air tram operated by the Bern Tramway Company ran from the Bear Pit, past the Zytglogge clock tower, to the freight yard. And from there, back again. The compressed air was generated by hydropower in the Matte district and filled into the trams at the tram depot at the Bear Pit. Later, the tram depot was used as a car garage and subsequently as a storage facility for the stage sets of the Bern City Theatre. Since November 1998, a brewery and a restaurant have welcomed visitors to the large tram hall.

OUR OWN BEER
With us, hops and malt are never wasted. Experience how our beer is brewed right here in the restaurant. Brewed with love, without any chemical additives, using the finest ingredients, and even adhering to the German Purity Law of 1516. That's why our naturally cloudy beer – whether enjoyed on tap here, in a swing-top bottle, or on a keg at home – is always a special treat. Let us introduce you to the secrets of brewing. Our brewmaster will gladly organize brewing seminars and brewery tours for you.
Open 365 days a year – from 9:00 AM in summer and from 11:00 AM to 12:30 AM in winter.
Hot food served daily from 11:00 AM to midnight.
180 seats in the restaurant, 70 in the function room. 200 seats in the beer garden with a children's playground.
Bus No. 12 (Bärengraben stop)
Car and coach parking is available at Klösterlistutz and Grosser Muristalden.
