They will be delivered in 1999 and were manufactured by DWA Deutsche Waggonbau Aktiengesellschaft, Bautzen plant (mechanical components). The design and supply of the electrical components were handled by KIEPE ELEKTRIK GmbH & Co. KG, based in Düsseldorf. Type: 8NGTW Design: Low-floor articulated tram for unidirectional operation Axle arrangement 8DIN 300 52): Bo'2'2 Bo' Bogie with loose wheels Car length: 29,400 mm Car width: 2,400 mm Track gauge: 1,435 mm Maximum speed: 80 km/h Weight: 33,700 kg Seat/standing capacity: 92/95 Entrance height: 290 mm above rail level Low-floor aspect ratio: 70% Drive: Single-axle transverse drive with three-phase asynchronous motors Motor power: 4 x 125 kW Control: Selective MC drive control, train-unit capable Inverters: 4 direct pulse converters with IGBT switching elements Control system: On-board information and control system BISS (CAN bus) Types of operation: BOSrab and EBO The low-floor trams, type 8NGTW, are suitable for use on the KVG tram network and on the future Lossetalbahn, a private railway line. They will thus provide a direct connection and supplement the existing fleet on Kassel's tram lines. The concept guarantees a high level of comfort and reliable, low-maintenance operation. The 12 new low-floor trams will enter scheduled service in June 1999. With the purchase, KVG also secured an option for an additional 10 vehicles.
