"Public transport has existed in Berlin since the opening of the first horse-drawn omnibus lines on January 1, 1847. Since then, public transport has significantly influenced the development of the city of Berlin and its surrounding area, becoming an integral part of everyone's daily life. Furthermore, Berlin companies such as AEG, Orenstein & Koppel, Siemens, and Waggon-Union provided global impetus for the development of new public transport systems and equipment.
About Us – The Association Introduces Itself
The Berlin Public Transport Preservation Society (Verein Denkmalpflege-Verein Nahverkehr Berlin e.V.) strives to preserve a piece of this history in working order and in exhibition condition for the general public. To achieve this, almost every trade is needed within our organization. From carpenters and welders to sign painters, everyone finds their niche. Currently, there are working groups for trams and buses in Berlin, and a trolleybus group in Eberswalde. For the volunteer members of the association, it is naturally a very special highlight when a vehicle, freshly restored after several thousand hours of work, embarks on its "second spring." Members who have already worked reliably in their group for some time can be trained as conductors or drivers for public service runs."
