"On July 15, 1898, the Lakolk bathing resort opened. Initially, transport was by horse-drawn carriage between the landing site Kongsmark and Lakolk along the sandy roads on Rømø. It quickly became clear that if the venture was to be successful, a road would have to be built, and the cheapest option at the time was a railway."
