"Bruce and Saunderson built a 3-foot gauge railway in 1893 from Douglas to Laxey, later extending to Ramsey in 1899. It’s the longest narrow-gauge vintage railway in the British Isles, covering over 17 miles of coastline. All trams are original, including Trams 1 and 2, the world's oldest regularly operated tram cars, with some dating to 1893. Many trams were lost in a 1930 fire at Laxey Depot. Despite financial struggles, the railway served tourists and cargo and endured over time."

"Started in 1895, the Snaefell Mountain Railway took just seven months to complete. Running a total of four miles from the village of Laxey to the top of the island's highest mountain, Snaefell at 2,036ft. The electric Snaefell Mountain Railway is the only one in the British Isles. The line is 3 1/2ft gauge covering 5 miles with a steep incline of 1 in 12 running on a 53 chain line. It has a centre line to aid braking."
