Tram at Nice Port Lympia station (2019)Well, in Lyon, we have driverless metros (Line D), metros with drivers (Lines A, B, C), and a rack-and-pinion metro (Line C) built on the route of an old funicular railway (opened in 1891, closed in 1974 to make way for the metro) that climbs a hill! We also have six tram lines, the first of which opened in 2001, and the last was completed at the end of 2019. Additionally, there are two funiculars, opened in 1878 and 1900, which have been modernized since then. So, brace yourselves, folks!
2030 Target
- Line 1 extension toward L'Ariane, then La Trinité (about 5 km)
- Line 3 extension toward Lingostière shopping center (2.5 km)
- Line 4 project approved, connecting Nice Airport and Cagnes-sur-Mer train station [6.2 km]
- Tram-train studies between Ariane and Cantaron [7 km]
- The TGV/TER train station at Nice Airport is under construction.
With all this, Nice is catching up (along with Strasbourg and its extensive tram network) and will still have an efficient transportation network if everything proceeds as planned.By alex spotter train - .

Tram Nice, line 2 route from Magnan to Jean-Medecin (2019)It's not the overhead line that's rising, it's the pantograph. And if it has to stop for the battery-to-pantograph transition, it's done automatically thanks to ground markers.By alex spotter train - .

Nice Tramway Line 2 at the Airport (2019)The western surface section of Nice’s new T2 tramway opened in 2018 and is catenary-free. The Alstom Citadis X05 trams are equipped with Ecopack supercapacitors, which are recharged at stops in 20 seconds using Alstom’s SRS ground-based static charging technology. The line is the first application of SRS, a development of Alstom’s APS ground-level power supply technology.
Line T2 provides a link to the Airport and a light rail service for the new commercial/residential developments around Cadam. As elsewhere in France, the tram is part of an urban improvement scheme. The tracks are mainly laid in a grass reservation, and much greenery and landscaping have been planted. Travel within the Airport is free, as the tram also serves as the inter-terminal shuttle.
The eastern underground section of the line to Port Lympia is scheduled to open in Summer 2019. However, the geology was more problematic than anticipated, so this may not happen.By michaelinlondon Belfast - .

Nice Tramway - Line T2 (2018)The new T2 line of the Nice #tramway has the particularity of not having a catenary. The #Alstom Citadis X-05 trains operate thanks to batteries located on the roof and are recharged on the ground at each station (0:22). Note the school tram at the end of the video (4:25).By ErebosSan - .

Nice tram line 2 Airport terminal 2 - Magnan (2018-2019)The speed of the tram is crazy! Come and see in Bordeaux, on your straight lines with sidewalks on the sides, we do 60kmh! And yet we don't have more accidents.... You just have to know how to manage the risks, that's all: we set low speeds at accident-prone intersections and we set very high speeds the rest of the time to compensate.By alex spotter train - - .
