Malmö Museum Tram - 25th Anniversary, Part 2 (2012)Then we drive. I turn on the camera. Should I turn this one on, too? Yes, I get a picture here. Yes, I'll have to wait, so yes, of course. We’re full, and tomorrow, then tomorrow. Now it quieted down a bit; I think, full, yes. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. We respect the old-time drivers. So, what a work environment to stand here in the rain and slush. Yes, there was nothing—I don't know if you ever stopped traffic because of the weather. Was it an extreme snowstorm or something like that? Yes, no, it was the work environment. It’s clear that it was difficult; it felt like the old drivers sat outside. Many of them had maybe started differently as drivers. Yes, no, he wasn't used to anything else. They go outside the asphalt edge. Okay, good, Rich Mark is easy to see; we don't need to check out. No, it's like, yes, they usually drive when they've waited. Parker H. had space, yes, who stands in the Stop area? Yes, it's clear, and it’s clear that Kings Förb, yes, it even stocks, ma—I'm going down to this shooting, yes, yes, C.By SporvognDK - .

Malmö Museum Tram - 25th Anniversary, I (2012)Malmö City Tramway Museum Association celebrates its 25th anniversary.
I know most of you here, but not all, so I thought I’d take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Anders Silverling, and I am the chairman of the Malmö Museum Tramway. We’re now celebrating our 25th anniversary. Er, the tramway was inaugurated almost precisely 25 years ago, on August 15. The reason is that it has been 100 years since the horse tramway in Malmö was first opened, and this Monday marks 125 years since that event occurred. This year, our anniversary will be celebrated by running two trams and offering two days of complimentary rides to passengers. We are starting it all off by taking a symbolic sod cut on the tram hall that will be built here this winter. Right where we’re standing, it’s inside the tram hall.
The tracks will be slightly different, but essentially, there will be just one track inside the tram hall. That’s why we have a shovel. You need it for Spade Day. This shovel was used for the first sod on May 4, 1987, it reads. The museum tramway project began with this shovel, and we thought it fitting to use it for the first sod turning ceremony for the carriage hall as well. Göran Larsson, head of Malmö museums, will do that. Do you want to dig or talk? I'll say two, too. Dig, dig, or talk— that's the question. Yes, as I said, my name is Göran Lorson.
I'm the head of Malmö museums, which includes this technology and the shipping house. I also serve as a tram director, which is incredibly fun for someone who grew up in Malmö and was familiar with the tramway, especially line four—my childhood line. This is a crucial aspect of the museum's operations. A museum that displays working objects, allowing visitors to experience history and cultural heritage, is significant. I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of you who work voluntarily to present this part of the city's history and cultural heritage so commendably—a warm thank you for your dedication and contributions. With Anders leading, I’d like to say that it’s also exciting for a cultural institution that this activity began 25 years ago. You could say that, at least for Malmö and much of the world, this tramway was simply history—a dormant part of human progress that was removed. But today, 25 years later, it’s not just history; it’s very much alive—an important new option for a sustainable society. It's terrific that a museum can lead this effort. I often say that when I talk to people here in town and say, "Well, now you're starting to catch up," because we've had this for a long time, and it's just about holding on. As I mentioned, it’s truly gratifying. It’s also exciting to finally find, after 25 years, a more permanent solution for storing and operating this service. Having it as it has been—moving carriages back and forth as a temporary measure with significant concerns—we now hope to improve this by combining efforts, making it easier to care for and operate the tramway, and permitting more flexible use than before. This initiative will also showcase an alternative to modern public transportation. That's why it’s so exciting to break ground today with Anders on this new hall. We decided to do this on the front wall of the future carriage hall, where the front fence and stands will go. We thought it was fitting to dig here.
Go ahead. Let’s see. We can take each other's feet and so on. Oh, look, it's done. Thank you. Thank you. And we will eventually start at 12:24, when the first carriage—Carriage 20 over there—will leave. Then we’ll run every 12 minutes, weather permitting. If the weather is bad, we will have to stop the carriage because it’s not weatherproof, and it’s not fun to be out in the rain. No. So, you’re welcome to go. As I said, it’s free today and tomorrow. Yes, this was a small way to celebrate by offering it for free.By SporvognDK - .
