[ÜSTRA] Line 10 - Attach trailer, stop Glocksee (2017)
4:18
[ÜSTRA] Line 10 - Attach trailer, stop Glocksee (2017)On Sunday mornings, at the "Glocksee" stop on line 10, single cars are combined into two-car trains. The trailers are coupled at the rear. ÜSTRA proudly calls itself the world champion in coupling. No other company couples and uncouples as often as Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe. ÜSTRA constantly adjusts its vehicle capacity by adding or removing vehicles during peak and off-peak times. Coupling also happens on line 10. Early on a Sunday morning, passenger numbers are still so low that single-car trains, running every 15 minutes, are sufficient. But starting around 7 or 8 a.m., demand picks up again, and ÜSTRA responds by coupling a second car. This takes place at the "Glocksee" stop, just a few meters from the depot of the same name. A workshop employee moves the trailers from the depot to Theodor-Krüger-Straße, where the second trailer waits until the single railcar on line 10 arrives at the stop. Then the trailer moves into the station and couples with the railcar. This video isn’t just meant to show the operation, as September 17, 2017, was also the last day this maneuver was performed with the green TW 6000s. One day later, the line to the new terminus, "Hauptbahnhof/ZOB," opened. Its elevated platform, only 45 meters long, is too short for a double-unit TW 6000. Since September 18, 2017, only the Silver Arrows TW 2000 have been running on line 10. On Sunday mornings, single cars run on line 10, reinforced by a second car starting around 7 a.m. At that time, the Glocksee depot is quiet, with only the workshop already busy moving the TW 6000 into the depot hall. The Glocksee depot, located directly on the Ihme River, is the oldest light rail depot operated by ÜSTRA. The "blue lines"—lines 3, 7, and 9, as well as lines 10 and 17—operate from here. But let's return to the main topic. One of the trailer cars leaves the yard to be coupled to line 10, also handled by the workshop. The trailer car waits for line 10 on Theodor-Krüger-Straße. Theodor Krüger was the first director of the Hannover Tramway Company. Amid the sights of the "three warm brothers," the chimneys of the Linden combined heat and power plant, and the "Ihme-Zentrum" high-rise building, this single car on line 10 reaches the "Glocksee" stop. The Glocksee light rail depot connects to the rail network via the triangular track at the "Glocksee intersection." From the depot, the second car approaches and couples with the first at the stop. The 100/200 ring line also stops here and can now cross the intersection. A MAN Lion's City Hybrid was seen. A quarter of an hour later, the next trailer car waits to couple with the single car on line 10. Meanwhile, the first coupled two-car train is already returning from the city and heading toward Ahlem. Just before 8 a.m., the last single car arrives at the "Glocksee" stop and squeaks through the intersection. This marks the end of an era in light rail history, as it is the last TW 6000 train to be coupled with a trailer. With the opening of the "Hauptbahnhof/ZOB" station, only TW 2000 trains can run on Line 10. After a quick stop, the trailer carefully couples onto the railcar. Thanks to the Scharfenberg coupling, this only takes a few seconds. A whistle signals that the coupling is complete and the trailer is attached. From then on, Line 10 runs with two cars for the rest of the day.By IC-lokomotivfører - .

Hannover Tram - Impressions (2013)

Hannover Tram - Impressions (2013)No matter which light rail video I watch, I keep noticing that many stops are still not barrier-free. This poses a particular challenge for people with walking difficulties. I understand that making stations barrier-free can be costly, but still, what if a person with a disability needs to board or get off at a stop where boarding and alighting are only possible via the light rail's folding steps? Or do the light rail vehicles have ramps that can be used if needed?By 777whitestone - .

Stadtbahn Hannover - Vehicles (2007)During a visit to Hanover in 2007, these pictures were taken at a few selected locations on the above-ground rail network. My main aim at the time was to capture the various vehicle types, TW 6000, 2000, and 2500. I also managed to capture some beautiful full-length advertisements on camera.By Horst Honig (Horst Honigs Bahnvideos) - .
