Düsseldorf tram line 706: Am Steinberg - Hamm

Düsseldorf tram - The route Jan-Wellem-Platz - Graf-Adolf-Platz (2012)The route shown between Jan-Wellem-Platz and Graf-Adolf-Platz of the Rheinbahn was still part of the above-ground network of the Düsseldorf tram at the time of recording. The route runs through the old town, mainly single-track through Hunsrückenstrasse and Kasernenstrasse in the direction of Bilk. At the same time, construction is already underway on the underground Wehrhahn line, which will replace this route. The construction sites are clearly visible in many places, the route for the tram has been partially relocated and the roadway narrowed. This leads to traffic problems, which cannot be avoided during the construction phase. In addition, there is the large "Kö-Bogen" project with its associated road tunnel, which is also being built in the Jan-Wellem-Platz area at the time of recording. The route and station construction sites were included in the video as far as they could be filmed from the street. Lines 703, 706, 712, 713 and 715 run on the section shown. Once the tunnel is completed, lines U71, U72 and U73 will run. Lines 706 and 715 will have a different above-ground route. The film shows vehicles of the NF6, NF8 and NF8U types, some in double traction. The recordings were made in June 2012. Coming from the old town, Elisabethstrasse is only used in the direction of Bilk; the route in the opposite direction runs parallel to Friedrichstrasse. At the time of the recording, construction work was underway in this area, parallel to the above-ground operation on the underground Wehrhahn line, which begins at Bilk S-Bahn station and ends at Wehrhahn S-Bahn station. Some construction sites can also be seen above ground, for example, the ramp in Bilk. The above-ground route shown in the film will no longer be used after the Wehrhahn line opens in 2014; instead, the underground lines U71, U72, and U73 run there.
