The new Knippelsbro is built – Rare historical footage (1935-1938)Experience unique historical footage of the construction of the new Knippelsbro in Copenhagen from 1935-1938. (English below). The video shows the entire construction process: from the demolition of the old bridge piers and the construction of new foundations to the installation of bridge towers and the first traffic over the bridge in December 1937. 🚧 The construction process step by step: ✔️ Demolition of the old bridge piers ✔️ Construction of retaining walls and casting of new piers ✔️ Installation of the bridge's main girders, flaps and towers ✔️ Laying of bridge decks and tram rails ✔️ First test of the bridge in the fall of 1937 ✔️ Official completion in the spring of 1938 🔎 About Knippelsbro: Knippelsbro connects Slotsholmen and Christianshavn and was designed by architect Kaj Gottlob. The project was carried out by the Copenhagen Port Authority in collaboration with the City of Copenhagen, while the main contractor was Wright, Thomsen & Kier. 📏 Facts: • Length: 115 meters • Width: 27 meters • Type: Folding bridge 🎞️ At the end of the film, the rerouting of the railway at Elverdam and Kornerup is also seen. 📜 Interested in history? Unseen color footage of Denmark | Remastered (1920)A kaleidoscopic journey through Denmark. First, a tour of Copenhagen with, among other things, Tivoli, the Town Hall Square, the Marble Church, Amalienborg, Dr. Louise's Bridge, and the usual busy everyday life in the capital, as well as the nature in Dyrehaven a little north of Copenhagen. From Zealand, you can see, among other things, Stevns Klint with Gammel Højerup Church, the Gåsetårnet in Vordingborg, Fredensborg Castle, Nakkehoved Lighthouse in Gilleleje, and Kronborg Castle. There are plenty of shots of the bathing life on the beaches in North Zealand and the rocky coast of Bornholm. On Funen, you can see Christiansminde at Svendborg and the ferry to Tåsinge. From Jutland you can see, among other things, The Silkeborg Islands, Himmelbjerget, Ålborg, which is connected to Nørresundby by two bridges, Skagen with Holger Drachmann's grave, the west coast of Jutland (presumably Thorup Strand and Bovbjerg), Esbjerg with the fishing port, Fanø, Ribe with its cathedral and old houses, Møgeltønder, Schackenborg Castle, Dybbøl and Sønderborg, Galgebakken and Brundlund Castle with the Slotsmøllen in Aabenraa, Gråsten Castle, Haderslev, Århus Cathedral, Koldinghus and the traffic hub Fredericia, which connects Funen and Jutland, as well as Vejle. 00:25 Copenhagen: The Thorvaldsen Museum 00:38 Copenhagen: Holmens Kirke - The maritime church Holmens Kirke 01:43 Copenhagen: Tivoli main entrance from inside.
