Return of Trams to Downtown Auckland, 1 of 2 (2011)Following seven months of construction, Auckland's new waterfront tramway opened for training runs on Friday 29th July 2011, in preparation for full public opening on 6th August 2011. Here we see trams ATL 257 (former Melbourne X1 class #466) and ATL 258 (former Melbourne W2 class #421) turning from Gaunt Street into Daldy Street, at 1557hrs on Tuesday 2nd August, 2011.
