Light rail for Gladsaxe part 2 - Lund (2021)I visited Lund and its new light rail, which opened in May 2021. In Gladsaxe and Copenhagen, the Ring 3 light rail is set to open in 2025, and I would like to learn more about the potential benefits of light rail for the cities and urban life. The video is a follow-up to my visit to Bergen 4 years ago on the occasion of the municipal elections. Four years ago, I was in Bergen, Norway. To tell a little about light rail. And tell why the light rail in Ring 3 should finally be adopted. That happened in 2018, and now I've gone to Lund (Sweden). To look at their newly opened light rail and to see what it can do for their local city. What do you think of the light rail here in Lund? It's really cool. However, there are some differences between the light rail here in Lund and the one that will run through Gladsaxe on Ring 3. It still tells a little about what awaits after 2025. When we get to the other side of the extensive construction work. One thing is to build the light rail itself. Another notable feature is the forecourts at all the stations. In Gladsaxe, we have prioritized 25 million DKK for a new and upgraded version of Ring 3, benefiting all residents. You are only confirmed in how important it is to have a green expression - When you stand here in Lund - and see what they have done to make their new urban space attractive. The light rail can do more than the buses that run today. A light rail can have as many passengers as 3-4 city buses. And thus you can future-proof the capacity for public transport - along Ring 3. That is also the reason why the light rail should not be fully loaded from day one - it must be able to handle the needs for many years to come. Many have been concerned about the view of the light rail's overhead wires. But I actually think they have solved it very well here in Lund. And it doesn't seem that different from what we are used to along the sidewalks. Part of that story also includes the fact that the heavier battery-powered light rail has a longer travel time; however, it also has a greater climate impact because the batteries have a relatively short lifespan, and during production, they emit something as well. Overall, the trip to Lund shows that the light rail is more than just public transportation. It is also a way to create new and more inviting urban spaces that give something back to the citizens. Trolleys/Trams in Lund, Sweden (2022)Lund's trolley/tramway system opened in December 2020. It was the first new trolley system in Sweden since 1911. It is now one of four Swedish cities with trolleys, alongside Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Norrköping. The current Lund network includes nine stations and 5.5km of double track running from Lund Central Station to ESS - European Spallation Source. This is the latest tram, running from Lund C to ESS. Are we going to take the Lunda Express from Es to Lund C? So come on. This is what the Lunda Express looks like from a little closer. We'll take a short trip along the side. As you can see, it's a windy day in Skåne today at the end of July. However, I'm going to do that anyway, as I'm taking several trains today, starting with the Lund Express, as I mentioned. This is what it looks like from this side. But we'll board the train and go. I'll go. You see, the carriage resembles this one, built in 2020. So it's not very old. Look, it's nice here. I think I'll find a good seat on the way down to Lund C. What should I do there? Yes, I'm going to take a train to Malmö, but that's another story. Then we'll drive to the station. The disadvantage of new trams like this is that you can't open the windows to film outside, as I did yesterday in Brösarp. There are many newly built houses, as well as numerous offices and companies. At Station Solbjer, several people are signing up for a telephone plan. The next station is Ideontorget. This is where our hotel, Hotel Ideum, is located. We see the tall building up there on the ninth floor. We don't have as many people going down to the station as we used to—of course, now that we have USB chargers. You can see we're starting to approach the station. This is the University Hospital, excuse me, and here is the stop for the tram heading down to Lund, located at Clemenstorget. Yep, that was a ride with Lunda Expressen. Lund - Clemenstorget, trams, station, and warehouse, Max Aschenbrenner (2023)LUND C: Lund C, or Lund Central Station, is the city's main railway station and an important hub in southern Sweden. Opened in 1856, it offers connections to various parts of the country, with regular train departures connecting travelers to nearby cities and far-flung locations. LUND'S TRAMWAYS: Lund's tramways were an important part of the city's public transport system from the beginning of the 20th century until their closure in 1969. The rail-bound vehicles enabled efficient travel and contributed to the city's growth by improving accessibility and communication. Nowadays, Lund has reintroduced a modern tramway as part of the city's sustainable transport system. CLEMENS SQUARE: Clemenstorget is a square in Lund. It is located about 100 meters northeast of Lund's central station and is one of the larger squares in the city. Clemenstorget is known for its market trade, mainly flea market stuff. The square was laid out in the 1890s and was originally called Clementstorget (the name was changed in 1923). Several houses were built by the square, including impressive stone houses on the north and east sides of the square. On the west side is the customs house, now an auction chamber, and since 1997 a pedestrian and bicycle bridge over the railway station. According to Lund's culture portal, the square is named after the area called Clemens rote, which in turn was named after Saint Clemens, also called Clemens Romanus, who was the third bishop of Rome in 90-97 LUND'S GOODS MAGAZINE: Lund's warehouse, also known as "Godset", is an impressive brick building from the 19th century. It was once used as a warehouse for goods and was an important node for the city's trading activities. Today, the building is part of the cultural heritage and has undergone restoration to preserve its historical value.
