Tram type M31 in Gothenburg (2012) The M31 is a six-axle articulated tram used by Göteborgs Spårvägar. ASEA and ABB manufactured it. The tram originally ran under the type designation M21. After receiving a new low-floor middle section, which was installed around the turn of the millennium, it was named M31.
The new low-floor middle section is manufactured by the German company MGB. The tram still has six axles, but four wheels support the middle section.
In December 2002, the last M21 tram, number 279, was converted in Germany to become an M31. It returned in February 2003 as tram 379. Between 2008 and 2017, the control system was replaced by the companies Ekova Electric and Cegelec in Ostrava, Czech Republic. In 2020, more trams were sent to the Czech Republic for renovation and refurbishment.
In the summer of 2024, Västtrafik announced that all M31 wagons, except one that was taken out of service following an accident, would be renovated and updated to resemble the newer M33 model. The work is expected to continue until 2028. Following the renovation, the M31B wagons are expected to remain operational for an additional 15 to 20 years. By Jeffs Tågtripp -
