Farewell to the Hovmarken step board (2024) Since 1990, the Hovmarken platform has served passengers living in eastern Lystrup. However, on 30 June 2024, the platform will close due to numerous delays on the busy Grenaabane. In this video, we bid farewell to Hovmarken, marking the first station closure of 2024. Hopefully, there won't be any more.
I am standing today on the Hovmarken platform that has been on the Grenå line for 34 years. Today is Friday, June 28th, and of course, many people are on summer vacation. At the same time, it is also the last weekday that Hovmarken is open. On the night of Sunday, June 30, 2024, the last train from Hovmarken departs, and the ticket booth closes thereafter. Over there, you will need to use bus line 18 or the light rail in Lystrup AO. The light rail on the Grenå line today is extremely busy, with a half-hour service between Aarhus Rygaard and Grenå on Saturdays.
Additionally, there are hotel shuttles from Hovmarken on weekdays, resulting in a two-hour train journey between Aarhus and Horsted during the week. That’s why the Grenå line is crowded, even though passenger numbers are low, with about 45 passengers a day. The goal is to reduce train frequency to prevent delays, which can be significant, especially during high traffic periods. We're here at Hovmarken before it closes in a day and a half. Hovmarken opened in May 1990 as Lystrup Øst, but in September of the same year, it was renamed Hovmarken and has since been part of the Græ banen. DSB and Ø owned it between 1990 and 2016, until the line was rebuilt into the light rail. For the past five years, Hovmarken has been accepting electric trains, which makes things a bit more complicated for me. The last train from Hovmarken departs on Sunday, June 30th at 01:35, but it might not be the very last train that causes concern, because Hovmarken might reopen in the future. This depends on whether Lystrup develops further, particularly on the eastern side. If that happens, Hovmarken could reopen. Even though Hovmarken isn't the most well-known stop, most people recognize the Hovmarken platform I am standing on now. It connects Lystrup East with Lystrup Southeast, and near the southeast side, there’s an industrial area, making it easy for workers to commute. Otherwise, they’d need to go all the way to Lystrup station. I don't know if the bridge will stay after the footbridge is closed, but without the trees, you’d get a great view toward Aarhus. Hovmarken is the third stop on the former Aarhus Nærbane, which closed before the light rail began. The Elund and Parkvej footbridges on the high line were also closed, but Hovmarken is actually the first to close after the light rail began operation. The last departure from Hovmarken was scheduled for Sunday, June 30th at 01:35 toward Aarhus, but it has been canceled. The last train toward Aarhus will now depart on the same date at 00:02, and the last train leaving for Hovmarken will be at 00:09 on Sunday, June 30th, 2024, heading toward Grenå—just an hour and a half before closing. Now I need to walk about 25 minutes to Lystrup station from Hovmarken, which is what people will have to do in the future to access the light rail. Fortunately, they can also bike if they want. But now I've taken my last step at Hovmarken station. Maybe the line will reopen if Lystrup develops further. Thank you very much for watching. Remember to like this video, and I'll see you again soon. By Mikkel på Zugfahrt -
