Streetcars in New Orleans have been integral to the city's public transportation network since the first half of the 19th century. The longest streetcar line in New Orleans, St. Charles Avenue Streetcar, is the world's oldest continuously operating street railway system, according to the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA), which operates the streetcars. Three streetcar lines are currently operating in New Orleans: St. Charles Avenue, the Riverfront, and the Canal Street Line.
