Finn Hørsted (August 31, 2023):

"In Leipzig, the addition of "E" means that the train ends earlier or in a different place than usual. In this case, Hauptbahnhof is indicated as the final station. The train may be an extra train, but it is not necessarily so. For example, in normal operation, E-trains run on lines 3 and 11; on the latter there are even short runs in both directions (ending in Wahren and Dölitz respectively). On line 3, there are trains that turn off at Heiterblick and run to Sommerfeld. During rush hour, lines 4 and 12 have a funny connection east of Johannisplats, which in the afternoon gets a line 4E on the street."

Henrik Boye (August 31, 2023):

"Yes, when the picture was taken, the tram was running as line 4E Hauptbahnhof where it became line 12."
