Frankfurt (Main) Tram - Line 18 New XXL Line (2011)The new VGF tram line 18 in Frankfurt am Main was officially implemented on December 11, 2011, after a trial run of around a month, just in time for the timetable change. The footage was taken just under a week after the line opened. The video shows the new line 18, which stretches from the Rohrbachstrasse / Friedberger Landstrasse stop to Gravensteiner Platz in Preungesheim. Our journey begins at Gravensteiner Platz, which opens up the new development area of Frankfurter Bogen. It continues past the Preungesheim prison and the A661 to Friedberger Landstrasse. Up to there, the route runs on its own in the form of a grass track. On Friedberger Landstrasse, line 18 shares the route with buses on a public transport lane. It goes past the Friedberger Warte and the FH. The last short stretch of the tram actually runs in normal traffic to the Rohrbachstrasse / Friedberger Landstrasse stop. The video ends here. Line 18 then continues on the existing route via Konstablerwache to Lokalbahnhof, and partially to the Offenbach city limits on Saturdays. The route is 3.5 km long and double-tracked, 1.4 km of which is a grass track. It has eight new stops, all shown in this video. The construction costs were around €50 million. Construction began in March 2009 after lengthy legal disputes in the tendering process. On Friedberger Landstraße in particular, the construction work involved laying canals and various pipes, which made the work complex and expensive on the one hand, and led to massive traffic disruptions on the busy road on the other. At the time of the recordings, driving school trips were also taking place on the route in addition to scheduled operations. Therefore, in addition to the S-cars used there, you can also see the driving school's PT car 2050. Small correction: The stop is called Alkmenestraße and not Akmenestraße as incorrectly titled in the video. Tram Frankfurt (Main) - Day of Transport History Special Service Line V (2012)On August 12, 2012, the Day of Transport History took place again in Frankfurt am Main. At this event, in cooperation with VGF and HSF, historic trams were used on the special service on line V. The line ran from the transport museum in Schwanheim via the old town route and Hanauer Landstrasse to Hugo-Junkers-Strasse. This also connected the events of the historic railway. Five courses and six cars/trains were used: L-car 124 & l-trailer 1242. M-car 102 & m-trailer 1804. N-car 112. O-car 110. R-car 023. R-car 020. For operational reasons, one course was initially run with R-car 020, which was then exchanged for N-car 112 at midday. The R-car 020 remained on the grounds of the transport museum until the end of the event. P-cars could not be used because there were no cars available for this purpose at the time of recording, in particular the previous museum car 190 was sold in 2012. In addition to the types already mentioned, the video also shows S-cars and EbbelEx trains that were on the route. The other events of the Day of Transport History are not the subject of this video; I will deal with them in subsequent years.
