Description
A vehicle of this size is very rarely seen on the motorway to Jena. The first of the 12 new trams, designated as non-rail, was delivered overnight. It is 42 meters long and weighs about 50 tons. These dimensions made shunting difficult for the two heavy-duty transporters. This became clear immediately after the motorway exit. The journey to the Jena local transport depot was challenging, but the unusual delivery still arrived on time. Overall, those responsible are satisfied with the project's progress. So far, everything has gone as planned. We are pleased with the project's status and look forward to the new vehicles. We can now move forward with the commissioning. The car will be placed on the track, and then we can begin operations gradually. We still need to run tests to obtain final approval for the vehicle. We remain hopeful that we will have vehicles here this year. Preparations for commissioning started this morning. The tram will first be unloaded and transported to the depot. There, technicians will assemble the vehicle parts. The upcoming tests are designed to ensure passenger safety and are a prerequisite for road approval, two years after the design is presented. The first light rail will then be on Jenaer Straße in autumn. The investment costs approximately 153 million euros and is funded by the EU and the state.
