Summer maintenance for the Clermont tramway (2013)Until August 26, 2013, the Clermont tramway is closed for numerous maintenance operations, and not only that, but also for explanations... Since July 8, the Clamontois tram has been out of service. A seven-week shutdown is unavoidable because, after traveling 9 million kilometers and transporting 100 million passengers since its first operation, the tram and its 14 km of line require major maintenance. This includes work on the 1.7 km extension toward Les Vernes. Several asphalt resurfacing projects are underway along the line, focusing on the surface sections of the tramway. These include repairs at Rue du Pont de Nerra, near the roundabout on the slopes, and at Margeride, near the Saiseau campus. These are the initial resurfacing efforts, with additional work planned on the Nerra bridge to resurface the waterproofing and the top surface of the tramway platform. Other essential maintenance involves linear work, such as repairing water boxes that drain rainwater and sealing cracks in the decking. Maintenance at the platform also includes replacing a railway signaling cabinet at Gaillard Square and tearing down the Croix Nera footbridge to raise the overhead contact line. This shutdown is also a good opportunity to inspect and service the 25 RAM units at the Champatel terminal. Maintenance along the line can be grouped into three main categories: first, infrastructure upkeep, such as annual checks of the overhead contact line, which will occur during these seven weeks. Second, scheduled maintenance includes routine operations, such as the maintenance plans for Fontjet trains, which occur at 1-, 2-, 5-, and 10-year intervals. These larger maintenance tasks are typically spread out throughout the year, but the shutdown period enables us to focus on them. Third, manufacturer-led maintenance involves the recovery and replacement of subsystems and components in about fifteen trains, along with updates and adjustments to previous versions. During this time, a bus line has replaced the tram to minimize disruption for line A users. The bus route closely follows the tram line, with some differences, and maintains similar frequency and service coverage. However, it is still a bus line, so of disagreements remain. The only difference between them is the color. This "tram" is a pink scourge on the city. Getting around has become hell during and after the work: for the past two years, the city has looked like it's been bombed.
